"His own design" for us!/entering the 8th week of hospice/LIGHT through the Gospel

Dad getting his second hair cut from his hospice nurse!  Yes!  She had just done his nursing cares and then they moved into the kitchen for his haircut.  She was a beautician in her former work, and now a nurse that does hair, too!  Dad is very pampered and all his needs are tended to as soon as he has then.

We are entering our 8th week of hospice for dad here in my home.  For the most part we have done well, and he certainly is quite stable for the most part.  We are in the process of working with Veterans at some further treatments, and all seems to be working out quite well for him here 3 hours from his VA in Minneapolis.  Dad said that he is glad not to be that close to all the mess now with the riots and all.
We chuckled at the sight of Mary and Joseph overlooking dad's procedures - "I have never had that happen before." said our wonderful nurse.

She lost her mother a few weeks ago, so we are very sensitive to her loss as dad and I just experienced that on March 16th with mother falling in the morning, breaking her hip, and dead by 5:15p!  Very similar to our nurse's loss, and now a brother's wife lost her mother a week ago, too!  Many prayers for the dead as we share prayer through the day!
We are still algow after the special day we all shared with dad on Pentecost Sunday!  Beautiful Birdie Barbara was baptized into The Church and my father attended and got out for the first time since he arrived!
So funny of dad and Birdie doing social distancing with an elbow bump rather than a hug...
Picture prefect!  How I marvel at the blessings that have come to me with each and every day in the last 49 years since my parents brought us into The Catholic Church!  My cup runneth over!!

Love what St Paul says today in the first reading from 2 Timothy 1... before we came into The Church, my parents prayed over me and I was baptized in the Holy Spirit as a 16 year old!  So I also shared that with my dad and mother, and attending a prayer group at The Cenacle Convent in Wayzata led to our conversion!
For this reason, I remind you to stir into flame
the gift of God that you have through the imposition of my hands.
For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice
but rather of power and love and self-control.
So do not be ashamed of your testimony to our Lord,
nor of me, a prisoner for his sake;
but bear your share of hardship for the Gospel
with the strength that comes from God.
2 Tim 1

The Holy Spirit at work in my father and then my husband - stir to flame in me!

My father did hold our newest member of The Church and surrounded by the other 12 great-grands - only missing Maria's 6!  So much LIFE!  LIFE is the greatest of Gifts and makes our love grow more and more with each new one - not stretched more thin!

Maria has updated her blog, so I am having some fun today sharing from Washington, too!  Here are the 6 in the masks that "T" has made for the family.  Maria shares that they only wear them when they are required to.  They went through covid and are on the other side!
LOVE!
 The absolute best!!!

One thing about these weeks with dad... I have been allowing myself to rethink some of what happened leading up to his coming here.  But I must remind myself that it was all according to "His own design" of the Lord!  The doors all closed up there, and armed with the prophesying of my father years before that he would come and live with me, and the support of others in the family - this happened!  As we pray through each day and meet each bump in the road with the help of hospice and the Lord's design for us... we are trudging down the narrow path with heaven forever in our sights!
Birdie praying for us and with us in her sweet humble LIFE washed clean and now following Christ and His Bride, The Church, led by our king, my father Deacon Robert Cross!
Landmark day yesterday - we opened the last jar of our wonderful tomato soup!  First to can this year will be tomato soup as my father loves it so much as do the Little Sisters in KC and this girl!
 Baby Barbara and tomato soup!
Birdie Barbara's centerpiece on a paver that John had made for me a few mother's days ago!  All the names of my children living and in heaven and sharing my name with Birdie Barbara - she is there too!  LOVE!
Tomato soup on the porch with 90 degrees and a breeze makes for a hot lunch on two levels!

More from 2 Timothy today!  LOVE St Paul so much!
He saved us and called us to a holy life,
not according to our works
but according to his own design
and the grace bestowed on us in Christ Jesus before time began,
but now made manifest
through the appearance of our savior Christ Jesus,
who destroyed death and brought life and immortality
Talk about being His and all the work he has done in our lives according to His design before time began!  Talk about being touched by God in a very personal way as we carry/drag our Most Cherished Cross and stagger down the narrow path following our tremendous lover, Jesus Christ!
Birdie, Dad and our homemade applesauce to end the meal after our homemade tomato soup!  That is why we do the work to feed our 7 families!
Dad reflecting on the family and the world - always many prayers needed and we share that passion to pray without ceasing!
Dad is so cute - when he sees the flag when we go outside he salutes!
Our praying of the rosary and chaplet  of Divine Mercy - on the chaplet he prays a decade for people we are aware of in need - Matt, a young father of 5 facing brain cancer, John, a friend of dad's in a end of life battle, and Robert, a young man who was found dead last week and is a brother of a dear, TEC friend!  We are also praying mightily for all the dead that have no one to pray for them through this world situation, and those that are close to death.  The chaplet has become such a powerful tool of prayer for us!
 Our happy place is prayer!

In the midst of the chaplet I have also found comfort picturing my mother with my sister, Mary, and Brother, Lincoln, with their many big wonderful dogs leaping for JOY all around them on a decade - praying for their entry into heaven forever!
Jesus, how we love you and find such comfort and strength as we come to you in prayer throughout our days together as we face all that comes to us!  We find so much LIGHT in your Gospel that we share with each new day, with Mary the Mother of God, with ALL the Saints in heaven including today St Charles Lwanga and companions, and your rosary prayer and chaplet - so very much to fill our hearts, minds and souls with your LIFE/LOVE/LIGHT!  Jesus, we trust in you. Amen and Hallelujah
I didn't know that it would be this special to have a namesake, and on top of that her being so much like my girls!  Such a special gift to me!  Bless-bless, Barbara

Happy Feast Day
St. Charles Lwanga
1860-1886
Feastday: June 3
Patronage: youth, converts, torture victims, Catholic action
Saint Charles Lwanga is one of the martyrs of Uganda, killed during King Mwanga’s reign. In 1879, the White Fathers (Society of Missionaries of Africa) welcomed by Mwanga’s father, came and started to evangelize Uganda. Mwanga, violent and a pedophile, came to power in 1884. He hated the Christians of the court, especially because they kept the royal pages away from his advances. St. Charles was the page’s guide, instructing them about the faith. When they would not renounce the faith, Mwanga ordered them to be executed. 13 Catholic and 11 Anglican were martyred. They said, “You can burn our bodies but you cannot harm our souls.”

Jan 1, 1904 - To her mother:
"... I spent a heavenly day close
to the Blessed Sacrament, and I took you with me,
for you know very well I never leave you.
I am so happy about the nice day you had."

Sept 11, 1901 -  "Every Sunday, we have the Blessed Sacrament
exposed in the oratory.  When I open the door...
it seems to me rather like the gate of Heaven opening!
Then I present to Jesus all those who are in my heart,
and there, close to Him, I find them again."

Kutless - Holy of Holies
Casting Crowns - If we are the Body
John's prayers are being answered - longs to share the love and healing he was given 11 years ago!
Chaplet of Divine Mercy in song!  LOVE!  Did this many times with my mother-in-law in her last few days of life!

It also was a bridge with my non-catholic family members - What is this new prayer on the rosary?  They were intrigued that there was only one hail Mary or mention of Mary.  They prayed it with my mother-in-law...evangelizing from her death bed!  Wow!  She was amazing!  I miss her a lot!
