A joyful breakfast shared with husband and son... the Twins have started their season and the two of them are in heaven... We laughed to think of all the times Mary is being asked to intercede at tight plays in the game from people that she only hears from at baseball season... the "Hail Marys" that come instantly to lips and mind when there is a ball flying out of the park or there is a runner trying to make the base... hopefully that is what they are thinking and praying and not other words! This all started after John proudly announced that the Twins had won last night and I told him that I was sure that he was sitting there with his rosary beads in his hands... praying for that outcome. Clear blue sky and buds coming out on the trees and a beautiful blue jay to watch in the lilac bushes as we say morning prayers... how could we be in anything but a wonderful light hearted mood? Add to the the Twins.... life is good!
So much to ponder today in the readings for the mass for the day! In Acts3:11-26... Following the story of yesterday where Peter heals the cripple and he goes "walking, leaping and praising God." Do we all have that joyful song resounding inside of us? Today with this man at his side... Peter addresses the crowd that gathers amazed at what they are seeing... a Miracle! What really strikes me from what he says to them is actually a quote from the OT...God said to Abraham; "In your offspring all the families of the earth shall be blessed." Acts3... Also this ties into the Gospel today when Jesus appears in the midst of the disciples.... Lk24:35-48
He shows them his wounds...."Jesus reassures us by his wounds that he is no stranger to our human flesh and its suffering." morning prayer... But then after they see and touch his wounds... "He openned their minds to understand the Scriptures." That is so true! We have found that when we are in a painful place... remembering back when John was at Avera in Sioux Falls and we were in shock and terrified... John and I shared St John the Baptist feast day at his bedside reading Morning prayers and the readings for the day... So many times we were wiping tears as we read about the mother-son relationship that were mentioned in many ways... touching so deep at this point where the suffering we were sharing were bringing the words of the psalms and scriptures to life! So often the words come to life for us on this journey... we are deeply touched by this journey and just as after putting their fingers in the "wounds" of the resurrected Christ... our minds are openned in a deep a powerful way to His Word!
I was just down the basement cleaning and came across a watercolor I did many years ago with a quote from Job that speaks of this Life that comes from suffering and what in many ways looks like death! Today I am also adding some Easter time shots of little Mary when she was 1yo in 2007 with baby kitties and snow.... I am thinking that I have all these fun pictures so why not share them especially to share this Easter week or should I say weeks ahead! Also found some baby rhubarb pushing up through the earth...
Jesus thank you for the crosses that lead to your resurrection and the "new life" that we take forth into our lives and our families. You mention in Acts today how all the "families of the earth will be blessed"... come into our families today and forward that we may be the "domestic church" where all the foundation begins... as we come together in love and faith and trust!
