Today the road to Emmaus! Such a beautiful story that is! And now after our church has embraced a retreat called "Emmaus" for both men and women over the last 15 or so years... many of us have that story ringing in our hearts with great joy! It took me a while to get there as it was right at the tail end of harvest, but when I finally got there... well, it was a wonderful gift! I have loved to work it time after time starting with the next one, but then a bumb hip prevented me and this past year John's health journey has put the brakes on this retreat and also my beloved TEC retreats.... The Lord had a different retreat in mind... one spent in close contact with my 20-21 year old son! And what a retreat it has been! This morning at breakfast as we shared morning prayer together... I was once again filled with joy and amazement at how we are now sharing our faith on such a deep level with our son... each day as we lift up our intentions for the day... all 3 of us thank God for the healing that John has had and will continue to have! Jesus we trust in You!
Today the focus on how they "recognized" him in the breaking of the bread... Much talk about the Eucharist today in morning prayer and how the Paschal Lamb became our food and drink! The Lamb is so close to our hearts as we focus through Little Sister Hallel on their words to live by...."Wounded, I continue to love." Also on this journey there is a reality to the way that Jesus has carried us as a small helpless lost lamb in His arms lovingly throughout our fear and worry and depression! As Hallel said to me back when I was telling her of my personal weakness in the face of hardship... "Mom, when we are weak... that is when Jesus comes to us." That really struck me and I immediately felt so much better knowing that when I need him the most is when He is there for me, and I want and need Jesus in my life always!
Finally the first stanza of the hymn used in Morning prayer this morning...
"At the Lamb's high feast we sing,
Praise to our victorious King,
Who has washed us in the tide
Flowing from his pierced side;
Praise we him, whose love divine
Gives his sacred blood for wine,
Gives his body for the feast,
Christ the Victim, Christ the Priest."
Thank you Lord... there are so many wonderful gifts that you have given us in the midst of this most horrendous of crosses we could ever have imagined! How we are uplifted as we pray to you from our hearts as we begin each day - now we are into EAster days and the joy is a wonderful gift as well! Thank you for the Lamb that was slain to feed us in the Eucharist of love and eternal food and drink! Your life fills us and we are ready to go and serve as you serve! Jesus we trust in you!
