A mad scramble out to be sure that the small calves are all doing well and out of the rain that we are getting today. John is helping out his dad more and more and Pat was saying that he can see an improvement in his walking and balance... they were out here in front of our house working on the fence last evening and John although keeping to the more level places did fine. Now this morning to look out and see our 3 bulls grazing really brought the reality of spring home for me! They are getting the new shoots of grass that come up as soon as the snow has melted and watered the earth. I think that grass is one of the most amazing and hearty and lifegiving plant there is out there. There is nothing more pretty to Pat than to see his cow and calf pairs out grazing and growing on the grass that they are eating in the pasture... even the calves that are nursing on their mothers.... eat the grass as they grow older and of course the milk starts with the nutrition that the grass has given their mothers to produce it for their calves... it gets to the point where you see these huge healthy calves nursing on their mothers... One time I saw a mother cow with twins and one was nursing on both sides of her... the size of them made Pat comment that she had probably produced her weight into those two calves!
Yesterday I had a peaceful island in my day... after returning from Minneota for a job interview... I went and spent some time in front of the tabernacle with my rosary and chaplet in the Easter Church... I was not alone for long... another woman sat close by in front of the altar to Our Lady of Perpetual Hope... she poured her heart out to her and then stood and reached out and lovingly stroked her... As we were praying... a grandmother with her daughter and two granddaughters about 7 and 10 came and lit a candle and knelt and prayed on the kneelers by the candles. I could hear the voice raised in prayer of the youngest as the grandmother kneeling next to her wiped tears and hugged her... Very touching to see all these in this small window sharing the beauty and devotion of our Church! One sad thing about KC was that there were so many neighborhood chuches that you could walk up to, but they all were locked during the day. We ran into one priest of these churches at mass somewhere else and asked him about his church being locked...."If I left it open... everything would be gone by evening." So sad, and what a gift we have to be able to slip in for a time of peace and refreshment in front of Jesus. With the beautiful chapel in the home of the sisters in KC... all I needed to do was go in there any time my little heart desired, but for the people in the neighborhoods...this has been taken away from them due to the poverty and corruption caused by the gangs and the desperation!
After I was once again alone in the church... I took some pictures of the Easter scene and I will share some of those today. I especially was excited to capture the 3 things that are part of Easter and the vigil... the fire in the Easter candle, the water of birth and baptism, and the Word that is now displayed on the stand behind the pulpit of the church. Thank you Lord for these gifts and their power to allow you to come to us and minister to us!
A beautiful echo in morning prayer of Mary looking for Jesus... as he was no longer in the tomb... Song of Songs3:1,3
"I sought Him whom my heart loves- I sought him but I did not find him. The watchmen came upon me, as they made their rounds of the city: Have you seen him whom my heart loves? I had hardly left them when I found him whom my heart loves. I took hold of him and I would not let him go."
Finally from the meditation of the day by Fr John Tauler (1361)...
"You will notice that as long as Mary stood gazing into the empty tomb and looked at the angels, Jesus stood behind her and concealed himself from her. This means that our Lord God hides himself from those busied with creatures, absorbed and distressed about created things. The moment the soul turns away from them and goes in search of God, then God reveals himself....He is the Master of all truth, and therefore we must comtemplate him. He is the Master of the highest perfection, and therefore we follow him without ever looking backward."
Jesus, how we want to hold onto your feet and never let them go... help us to stand and go forward onto the path you have laid out before us with trust, joy and hope! Jesus we trust in You! Bless-bless, Barb
