This is so much of a reliving a very happy memory with Ruth and our kids when they were young - going where Pat was to celebrate his birthday! We were telling the grandkids this morning that there were times when we would have a picnic in the back of the van while Pat was harvesting. Today we got a call from him to come over to the bins while he unloaded the semi into the bins. Too fun! The kids loved to be where grandpa is and to share in the activity of taking out the corn.
The semi we have had for a few years is a huge hit with the kids.
Rose took a nap so that mom could ride along out for a load with the boys and then with Mary. Simon then rode in the combine with Uncle Ed and Ruth ended up in the grain cart with David, the boss! "He kept telling me to go faster mom!' I had Rose and Mary to make a birthday cake for grandpa here at home.
I had fun making this watercolor for Pat - the monoslope barn turned out interesting to say to the least! I had to add Simon on the semi by the bins and the auger when we got back!
Such a beautiful day and the golden bean field beckoned! That red apple and the kitty shirt are the best - they are combining behind her!
Pat and the farming kids and Ruth walked in just as the girls and I finished Pat's birthday cake. He loved to have his grandkids there to sing happy birthday to him, and...
The triple threat blowing out the candles - Grandpa and little Rosie got out of the way! No girlfriends, thank goodness!
Rose got her first taste of anything that isn't milk...thanks to grandpa she got her first frosting and ice cream! She isn't too sure about that sweet stuff - Mom still is the best, right Rose?
Rose looks alarmed at all those burning candles - Don't worry Rose you have a long time to wait til you will have that many! Grandpa got a red shirt from them that is behind on a table... it looks like a huge rose in Rose Ida's hair! I asked Pat if this birthday turned out about as good as a birthday could be - "Well, I would rather have been combining beans at 40 bushels to the acre, and not corn that we are having to dry. But I did enjoy having all the kids out there and Ruth helping me." We even got to mass tonight and his mom was along for an inexpensive birthday supper - "it's what I want!" says Pat.
Jesus, hold Pat close to your heart burning with love for him. Keep all the farmers safe as they take out the crop. Thank you for our Faith, Family and Farm... together they make life such a beautiful blessing! Jesus, we trust in you. Bless-bless, Barb
