Here is my husband, Pat, sitting beside the Lighthouse out in the bay of Manistique, Michigan this past July with all of our grandchildren! This is a working lighthouse and from our cabin down the beach about 5 miles we can see it blinking in the dark night - warning ships that the land is there! I chose this picture because it is beautiful, and filled with all the expressions of the little ones from 7 year old Simon to 2 month old Rose. We have just come from celebrating Saturday evening mass together, and then we have the tradition of sharing a meal and walking out to the lighthouse. Pat has been my champion for LIFE - we had a discussion on our first date about what we value in life. Our Catholic Church, family, and we each wanted to have a big family, and nature/farm! Seeing as we wanted the same things out of life and marriage, in less than a year we married! On our engagement weekend we shared how we were open to a large family, and it shocked us that no other couple shared this - each wanted to only have 2 kids or none because of the mess the world was in! It even made me question if we were being selfish to have a lot of kids. When I asked Pat, he did not hesitate one minute... "The world needs lights." It took all the questions out of my mind and heart - it was truly the Holy Spirit speaking to me. It has been the basis of our marriage and family and is now being lived out by our children! We have 11 children, but only 5 here with us on earth. We have 6 losses that are praying for us in heaven. Pat never said that we should quit! He is my true champion of LIFE and LOVE!
He is the light on the hill for all to see! He is here in the setting sun by the lighthouse, and truly he has brought LIGHTS into the world, and those LIGHTS are now raising LIGHTS! Soon we will welcome two new grandchildren, and the blessings continue!
Jesus, we trust in you. Bless-bless, Barb
