Grandpa loves and cares...

I was told of my addictions with my close family time... I was told that I am addicted to my blog, and that I let other things go by the wayside to share here every day.  Yes, I am sure that there are things that are neglected, and although it was hard to hear, I need to face the fact that I do love to share here!  I am in the midst of reading a biography of Dorothy Day, and I take heart in her "need" to share in writing - she kept journals, which the author used to write much of this book.  She also wrote numerous articles for papers and realizing that she lived in the 20s - 60s - that was how the world communicated their feelings and thoughts without the ability we have now with the technology of the internet...  I know that Dorothy Day would have had a blog and that there would have been many lives enriched by her journey of conversion and wisdom!  I am now reading about the portion of her life after her conversion and the man that came and taught her about her newfound love for the Catholic Church as well as her conviction to serve those less fortunate/the poor in starting of the Catholic Worker movement.  I am very interested in learning more about this important ministry - of which I know nothing about.  I am enjoying reading more about this woman, who in the midst of her wayward life found Christ and His Bride, the Church!
Gus started walking in Michigan, and his little brown bare feet walked out to the Lighthouse with Grandpa on our last night in Michigan.  I know that there is one thing in my life that is an addiction and that is pictures.  I have some guilt about it, and the weight of them all on my children and grandchildren!  My kids say that they appreciate them, but so many?  I just deleted about 400 pictures of the 1200 I downloaded from our 2 weeks away!  Thank goodness for digital and for the little felt camera case that Nancy made for me... I ruined a camera last year with the sand and constantly using it in all situations, but her little case saved my camera plus I was much more aware of taking care of it this year!  Thank you, Nancy, for taking care of your dear old mom and her addiction to photos!  They are much more than documenting our time - they tell the story of Faith, Family and Farm which is the entire fabric of the beautiful garment that surrounds me!  I love the setting sun in this picture and how it is the paintbrush that is coloring my family with love and LIFE!
Grandpa watches little Gus, who has discovered his legs and is now much harder to control and protect from harm.  His days of sitting in the middle of the floor and being easy to care for are now gone, and he has taken a huge step towards being more of a little boy!  A time for celebration but also one to now be watching out for his welfare!

Grandpa with his grandkids - How he loves them, and cares for them, and spent many hours in the lake with them, reading stories to them, holding them, talking to them, and just "enjoying a week with my girls and grandkids!"  Such a gift, and you could just see the kids responding to his love for them with smiles and holding out their little arms to him - even when they were in their mommy's arms - little Gus was showing us that he wanted to get home to his own house and bed by waking up often during the night and crying.  The last two nights Nancy would bring him to her dad and he would put Gus next to him and within short order the two of them would be sleeping!  He would wake up happy and wanting to be with his grandpa!  ( All the dads had gone back to work the day that grandpa came.)  Pat needed to go to the Hardware Store and took the 3 older boys for this manly errand - to buy a new faucet for the upstairs sink and some stain for the deck.  Little Gus walked out on the deck and pointed to the van as grandpa and the boys were crawling in to leave - he was a boy and he wanted to be included!  Pat is always so good about including all the little ones and in short order he was in his seat and going along - feeling like such a big and important boy!  Yes, his mom went along to help out too, but Pat loves that too... he loves to share all the parts of his life with all those who he can get to come along!

Thank you, Lord, for such an amazing "family man!"  Patrick never is too busy to visit with, and hold, and love all the new life that we have been blessed with.  He also prays without ceasing for the ones here with us, and all those that are in the womb!  We feel that we know them well by the time that they join us, as we have lifted them up daily in prayer!  Looking at those big hands holding the two newest members, and hopefully there will be many more after this.  Maria and Nancy will give us two new ones in just a few months!  We rejoice with them, and for them!  Jesus, thank you for the gift of sharing our faith and family in this beautiful way of a peaceful week away.  Jesus, we lift up our son-in-law, Joseph, in Alghanistan, who wasn't able to physically be with us.  As well as our Little Sister Hallel in France... they were with us in our hearts and minds and souls!  Jesus, we trust in you.  Amen and Hallaluia

Bless-bless, Barb
"One of the little Sisters while walking back from the soup kitchen meets a young girl needing a helping hand.  The girl peers up at the little sister and eventually asks: 'Are you... God?'  The little Sister smiles back: 'No, but I am a good friend of His!' "
From a newsletter from the Community of the Lamb in Kansas City - they are in the midst of building their little monastery there!  Praise HIM!

Our thoughts and prayers are with Joseph and Maria's new little one - soon to join us!

Beautiful beach at Sunset... Out of this world as the glorious backdrop for FAMILY!
