There are dark clouds overhead, and the mantra of desperate prayers for rain is repeating in our inner temple - "Please, Lord, give us rain!" Things are really starting to hurt from the heat and lack of rain, so, Lord, hear the prayers of your people. The three of us, Pat, John and I went to mass this morning to pray for rain and for the youth of the parish. As you said to us in the Gospel today - Matt 12: 1-8 - "I desire mercy..." Merciful and never ending is your love and forgiveness and care of all your people - answer our prayer for the rain to nourish our crops..."I put water in the desert and rivers in the wasteland for my chosen people to drink, the people whom I formed for myself, that they might announce my praise." Yes, Lord, we long to sing your praise and rejoice in the lifegiving rains!
Lord, we are helpless in the face of the natural world around us... we are reminded in a very powerful and real way that you are in control, O Lord. To look at all the crops looking so hopefully to the skies for the rain to quench their thirst... Lord, we fall on our knees before you. Jesus, we trust in you. Amen and Halleluia

"Almighty God, we are in need of rain. We realize now, looking up into the clear, blue sky, what a marvel even the least drop of rain really is. To think that so much water can really fall out of the sky, which now is empty and clear! We place our trust in You. We are sure that You know our needs. But You want us to ask you anyway, to show You that we know we are dependent on you. Look to our dry hills and fields, dear God, and bless them with the living blessing of soft rain. Then the land will rejoice and rivers will sing Your praises, and the hearts of all will be made glad. Amen. " Pat was just marveling the other day about all that water that can be stored in the heavens, and come down to earth! Pour upon us, O Lord!
