Our last night with Maria and the kids last night - a shared meal out after a mass in a very hot church. They are already on the road to the airport in Sioux Falls. Jesus, go with them and protect them. Maria also asks for special prayers for Joseph in Alfghanistan these next few days - he will be in harm's way! Jesus, surround Joseph with the armor of protection as he strives to keep our country and this world free from those that want to destroy us and our way of life.
2 1/2 year old Dave with the kitten that his cousin, Dave, got for his birthday a few days ago - Cookie. We are kitten sitting while they are gone for the weekend... such a sweet and loving kitten she is! She was fun for the kids to enjoy for the last day, as they missed seeing the cousins. There was a marvelous meditation about today's Gospel in the Magnificat today by Fr Robert Barron. In the Gospel from Mark 6: 30-34... Jesus says to the disciples after all their works for the Lord - "Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while." They then got into a boat to find this place away from the "people were coming and going in great numbers, and they had no opportunity even to eat." But the people saw them leaving and went to foot to the place..."When Jesus disembarked and saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pity for them, for they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things."
"Lord, you have made us for yourself, therefore, our heart is restless until it rests in thee." St Augustine intuited that every human being is essentially 'wired' for God, designed for union with the Creator. Our minds seek the truth, but they are not satisfied with any of the particular truths that the sciences provide. Our wills seek the good, but no particular good available in this world satifies them. What the soul wants is infinite Truth and perfect Goodness, and this is why the Psalmist says, 'Only in God is my soul at rest.'
"This very hunger of God is the reason why so many of us are restless, dissatisfied, and uneasy much of the time. We should not interpret this as a sign that life is meaningless. On the contrary, it is an indication that we are ordered to a perfection that lies beyond anything the world can offer." The picture persented by the Gospel of the people flocking to follow the Lord, Jesus, where ever He went... "How I love their eagerness and perseverance! Those early followers of the Lord correctly intuited that Jesus was the ONE, the satisfaction of the deepest longing of their hearts. And, therefore nothing could stop them. May we seek Christ with the same intensity, the same purity of heart, the same restless ardor." Fr Robert Barron
Lord, we love you and follow after YOU as you are the Truth and Goodness that our heart longs for... go with our little family today as they are flying back to Texas, and be with Joseph in harm's way in Alfghanistan. And be with all those families touched by the terror in Colorado. May they find comfort in your Cross. Jesus, we follow you carrying our Most Cherished Cross. Jesus, we trust in you. Amen and Halleluia
