Real True LOVE thoughts on this St Valentine's Day - "Choose LIFE!"

Maria as she entered the monastery to listen to His Call to have a contemplative LIFE of Prayer... No, she was called to die-to-self as a wife and mother!LOVE is gained through dying to self, and through the Cross we find LOVE and LIFE everlasting!  I am thinking of the Christmas greeting that Maria and Joseph and family sent out this year as I begin here today!  I have shared it here a couple times, but today it is resonating so loudly proclaiming the Truth about LOVE- "Love's the real stuff - the dirty stuff - the life-transforming stuff.   Why is this?  Because it is our very nature.  God is LOVE.  Not in the cheesy sense of the fly-by-night Sunday school session, but in the real sense of gift, of sacrifice, of service - of death-to-self."
Valentine's Day is filled with real LOVE in each day of our lives with HIM!
Today Nancy asked me to contribute to a forum she has begun on her blog - http://www.dosmallthingswithlove.com/ every Saturday.  This week's topic will be Being a Christian Wife... Wow!  Do I ever feel inadequate to write on this topic, as I feel that I am pretty poor at it.  I will say that I have learned so much from my daughters and how they approach their marriages!  I know that Ruth and Paul have always tried to be life-giving in their sharing and communicating with each other.  As a result they have a peaceful and happy home - Just as Paul asked Blessed John Paul II when they had their marriage blessed by him in Rome a few days after their wedding - "Please Bless us with a happy healthy family."  I feel that any one of my daughters could better speak to this topic than I, but I will swallow my pride - humility is a lesson that I am taught over and over and is so important in allowing your marriage to help you to die to self and embrace our Most Cherished Cross and follow after HIM!  Yes, I learn at the feet of my 3 married daughters, but it was Little Sister Hallel, who shared with us about how our spouses are our Most Cherished Cross, and that we must not run from it, but embrace it to find LIFE and LOVE, and to bring LIGHTS into the world!  I am very humbled by the wisdom of the Truth that comes to me from my girls as they follow Christ and His Bride, the Church!

Little Dave loving his mom so much that he is eating her chin...so much like the icons we see of Mary with Jesus "eating her chin" out of LOVE for her, and that she chose LIFE!  Today the first reading is that great one from Dueteronomy 30 - "I have set before you life and death, the blessings and the curse.  Choose LIFE..."  How great is that to be reminded of?  New LIFE is the fruit of our LOVE!  To limit openness to LIFE in our marriage for selfish and misled reasons is such a sadness.  To fill our homes with more children and not more things and distractions is the Way, the Truth and the Life - it is Jesus alive and well as we share and die-to-self as we say "yes" to LIFE - Choose LIFE - and devote our time and energy to those that we are blessed on this journey called family/faith/LOVE!

Jesus, may we become less and less, so that you may rule as ruler of our hearts, minds, and souls.  Thank you for the lessons in humility that remind us that we are truly nothing without YOU in our lives.  May we embrace our Most Cherished Cross and follow after YOU in order to find LIFE, true LOVE, and become LIGHTS on the hill for all to see!  May we not be misled by the sugary and false idea of LOVE this day of flowers and candy... but hold close the Truth of LOVE that is painful as we give up our selfishness.  Remembering the moments of deep growth through pain in our lives - The Cross of Mary's death, Don's journey and death, John's journey called brain cancer/healing/seminary, Hallel's following your call into religious LIFE, Joseph's time in Afghanistan, Little Lamb Patrick and his journey called traumatic birth/road to healing/ lesson in prayer!  Our LIFE is so full of the richess of Your Call to die to self and Trust in YOU in the midst of the storms of LIFE.  Jesus, we trust in you.  Amen and Hallelluia

Bless-bless, Barb
"Without a 'dying,' without the demise of what is simply our own, there is no communication with God and no redemption."  Pope Benedict XVI
"No matter the suffering, no matter the evil to be had, there is nothing more powerful.  There is no power in hell, no devise of man that can overcome this.  The exteme anxiety had over a newborn's traumatic birth or the horror of the battlefields of Afghanistan can only be authentically engaged by an act of: LOVE.  This is a most beautiful reality."  Joseph L.
