As I sit here on the north side of the house with the freight train sound of the wind hitting the grove at up to 50 miles per hour... It is a very awful night out there for man and beast. This picture was taken a couple days ago when I helped Pat put up his calving pen. He reminisced about when the calving pen arrived on the truck for the first time - " I woke up Susan and John before school to come out and help me put it together for the first time. Susan was really great to work with, and very willing to help me." I think that we are all getting very excited at the thought that Susan/Hallel will be home on the farm for the first time in 3 years! There will be probably close to 100 baby calves on the ground by then, and Pat could be very busy getting the crop into the ground. I assured him that when he is busy and the girls or John is home - they come to where he is, and spend time riding along, or giving him rides, and bringing him meals. But I know Pat... he hates to miss even a minute of what is going on when the kids and grandkids are here to visit! There is no way of telling what the spring will hold, so we just have to leave it up to the Holy Spirit to be in charge of arranging just the right time for her to be here. All we know is that Simon has his first Communion on April 28th, so we are thinking of combining the two events so that many can come and see Hallel and share in this huge event for the oldest of our grandchildren!
When I am outside - my constant companion is the stray rat terrier John found tied to a stop sign many years ago... Roger. Tonight I am sure that he is in his warm cozy nest in the barn between the round bales that Pat has stacked in there. Sleep well, Roger! Tonight we are not venturing out into the storm and the wind of the prairie. The woodstove, and being home sweet home sounds good! The cow TV is going to come in really handy tonight - watch for calving on the couch by the heat of the woodstove while the winds of the prairie howl at the door of our farmhouse. Jesus, we trust in you. Bless-bless, Barb
