Luke after mass with mom and sister, Mary. It is true - he is awake in the mornings so it seems that he doesn't want to miss mass. We go to the 8a mass each Sunday, for some reason, and Luke has always had an awake time about that time, so he is just seeming like he does not want to miss mass! He was very good, and Ruth says that it is the one time that she uses her nuk. As Ruth was carrying him out today... he was looking intently at the little lights that adorn the glorious ceiling of our beautiful Church. Fr commented on how he was spell bound by the lights! It does capture the attention of the little ones to see the beauty with their increasing vision. I remember little ones hanging over Pat's big safe arm as they look up at the lights! Ruth also got what I used to get with my 5 - 9 years old and under - "How do you get them all ready and here to 8a mass?" I think it was more like 7:30a mass when we milked cows first and then got 5 to mass... I always heard this - "How do you get all those girls' hair done with ribbons in their hair before mass?" Ruth also dresses her kids up in dress clothes for mass - we feel that it is a the most special occasion we have all week and we need to show respect with our Sunday best! John noticed, too, that Luke seems to want to be awake and take in mass - he knows that it is important and a most special time!
Home to put out the advent wreath, light the first candle, and share the Morning office before the football game starts! Today is the reminder of how we long for LIGHT to enter the world of darkness! "let us walk in the light of the Lord." Isaiah 2:1-5 from the first reading today. "the night is advanced, the day is at hand. Let us throw off the works of darkness and put on the armor of LIGHT..." Romans 13 - the second reading and also the reading from the office of morning prayer/lauds this morning! The armor of LIGHT - it sounds like a battle and not really like a small innocent child bringing the LIGHT into our world! So true! It is a battle as we gain HOPE in HIM!
Jesus, we thank you for this wonderful time of year! How we are filled with great anticipation and JOY - knowing that "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, Mary; you have no need to be afraid. You will carry in your womb the Son of God. Hallelujah." The antiphon for the 3rd Psalm - 149, an Hallel Psalm, from Lauds this morning. We have no need to be afraid in all that the darkness holds as we have put on the armor of LIGHT! Looking at the beautiful LIGHTS at this time of year when it gets dark earlier and earlier - what JOY to see the beautiful displays of LIGHT! So appropriate and so uplifting! Jesus, we HOPE in YOU and Trust in YOU! Amen and Hallelujah
