"Our Christmas starts today!" Pat Verly - Our Lady of Guadalupe walk with us

Happy Feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe today!  The kids are happy and excited and festive for the occasion as well as the exciting coming together of our family!  We have not seen Maria and her family since April, and they are flying in today!  Just in time for us to pick them up in the Cities and get back here for the 7p show of the Christmas program starring little Luke as baby Jesus!  Now that is really exciting!!!!   My wonderful family man, Patrick Gerard Joseph, just shared the JOY - "today our Christmas begins!"  It begins with this most amazing feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe - Mary the Mother of the Americas!!!  Yes, my husband is so loving of family time and moves mountains to bring us together as often as is humanly possible, but it takes the mother's heart to nurture/feed and care for that family when it gathers together!
"Bearing roses in December as a sign.  Our Lady of Guadalupe 'show's God's love aright.'  She brings all the humble of the world the Advent message of hope; arise, winter is over and gone, the spring of new life comes to your land." see www.magnificat Little Luke in the midst of his silly siblings is certainly a sign of the "spring of new life."  How we rejoice to have him with us, and how real does it feel to think of roses in December in the midst of this frigid early winter.  The white peacefulness of the snow over all that lives outside - the thought of that spring is very far off.  Yet, with the seasons we know that it will come after the long winter months of cold.  Our Lady brings LIFE into the world!  She is pregnant as a sign of her black tie around her waist, and that gives me such JOY!  LIFE is the gift we are given and the renewal of that LIFE eternal with Jesus is what we strive for from the moment we are given that gift!  With Mary ever at our side and bringing us to HIM we are very much helped on that way!  Helped as a mother cares for her little helpless child and feeds it and loves it and cares for its' every need!  Watching Ruth so naturally and happily caring for her new son in the midst of her big beautiful family is such a wonder and JOY for me!
"He says to me , 'Arise, my beloved, my beautiful one, and come!  For see the winter is past, the rains are over and gone.  The flowers appear on the earth.' " Song of Songs 2:10-12
To read these words at this point of the dead of winter... So amazing!  And to have the wonderful gift of family close by with the newness of LIFE bringing them this reality... So glorious and blessed are we!
Two beautiful options for the Gospel today - the Annunciation and the Visitation!  Both thanks to my patron Saint, St Luke!  How I love that from him we can get such a humble beautiful picture of Our Spiritual Mother!  Both of these Gospels are so wonderful and filled with all we yearn for as women - to bear LIFE into the world.  Even those that are not married or unable to have physical children - there is that deep ability to LOVE and give LIFE to those in our world!  I see this in my little Sister Hallel, and I shared her beautiful letter to Nancy talking about The Most Cherished Cross, and how if we embrace our spouse we find LIFE.  Well, Hallel's spouse in Jesus and that is where we find the fountain of LIFEgiving water!
Lord, thank you for all your extravagant LOVE in the midst of winter!  We see the miracle of LIFE in the midst of the winter cold!  How appropriate that this feast of your beautiful Mother should be on this December day... when we are in the midst of a bitterly cold early winter.  The true miracle of a tilma full of roses pouring out is very vivid and real!  Then to discover that miraculous image that converted an entire continent to YOU... through your humble, beautiful, loving Mother of God!  Pregnant with LIFE eteranal, and revealing to us that openness and Yes to LIFE is the road to happiness and JOY!  May the world come to realize that Truth about LIFE, and bring more LIGHTS into the world.  The darkness needs to be chased away once and for all by more and more LIGHT!  "The world needs LIGHTS." Patrick Verly when I asked him if we were being selfish to have a large family.  So True!  Jesus, we trust in YOU.  Amen and Hallelujah
Bless-bless, Barbara Luke
"The image of Our Lady of Guadalupe imprinted on St Juan Diego's tilma manifests two of the most important dogmas of Mary: that she is ever-Virgin and, at the same time, that she is the Mother of God.  In fact, the encounter that took place in the winter of 1531 is an encounter with God himself, whom our Lady carried in her immaculate womb.  It is a real encounter with Jesus, who has taken the initiative to meet man through his Mother."  Monsignor Eduardo Chavez Sanchez
Mary with her namesake in KC - years ago I was overcome with emotion when I was told that the black tie around her waist in the cultures of Mexico in the 1500s indicated that she is pregnant with Christ!  No wonder she is the Patroness of LIFE!
Virgin of Guadalupe,
Patroness of unborn children,
we implore your intercession
for every child at risk of abortion.
Help expectant parents to welcome from God
the priceless gift of their child’s life.
Console parents who have lost that gift
through abortion,
and lead them to forgiveness and healing
through the Divine Mercy of your Son.
Teach us to cherish
and to care for family and friends
until God calls them home.
Help us never to see others as burdens.
Guide our public officials
to defend each and every human life
through just laws.
Inspire us all to bring our faith into public life,
to speak for those who have no voice.
We ask this in the name of your Son,
Jesus Christ, who is Love and Mercy itself.
Amen.
