Winter is good for snuggles

Ruth with her two youngest boys and our cat, Herbie, - snuggling under a blanket by the woodstove on a cold blustery day.  Our pace of life slows down a lot in the winter on the farm.  No garden, gardening, picking stuff from the garden to can, canning, mowing the lawn, helping Pat with picking up bales, weeding the gardens... the world is frozen and cold and lifeless and dead by all appearances.  We are forced inside to keep warm and make the food from all the stuff we canned over the summer and the beef that we raised.  We put the wood that Pat cut into the woodstove to keep us warm in the midst of the storms of winter.  Pat must still feed the cows and calves every day and soon he will be very busy with his cows having their calves.  Then we will be forced to spend much more time outside keeping an eye on things and keeping the newborn calves warm, dry and safe throughout what is left of the winter.  A 93 year old resident farmer reminded me today that we are only half way through winter.  It started so early this year, and that feels like a very long time yet.  It would be nice if we could just continue to stay inside where it's warm, but calving and life makes us get out there and face it day after day.  Jesus, we trust in YOU.  Bless-bless, Barbara Luke
Grandpa with his sidekick Dave out doing chores on a cold day.  Lord, be with all those that are making this TEC weekend.  Keep all the farmers and their animals safe through the rest of this long winter. Amen and Hallelujah
