Waiting for the bus to arrive after school - Rose and Luke shared apples in the bright sunlight with leaves on the ground and yellow on the big cottonwood tree at the end of the their driveway, and the corn across the road soon to be harvested... a true fall masterpiece! Pat just headed out to see if there is a field ready to harvest their first corn of the year. The beans have been finished for a couple days now, and now on to the big push of corn. With the warm sun this week it is helping take the moisture out of it.
Luke will be one is just a couple weeks, so grandma had a rhyme to her reason...
I am currently working on a talk I will be giving on Scripture at a women's church retreat. I will be giving it for the first time tomorrow and am in the process of pulling it together. Working on a talk is a very powerful experience for me as I come to grips with some of the real underlying Truths that are the foundation of my LIFE with our Lord! I think the three talks that really express me would be Knowing God through Scripture, The Saints in my LIFE, and I LOVE,LOVE, LOVE The Church!!!
Last night as I was pondering my talk... I had a tidal wave of scriptures come pouring out of my heart, mind, and soul! I knew in morning light that I couldn't in any way cover them all and do anything justice. It would just be too crazy long and lose people along the way... I had to limit it to the biggies! The two that are the foundation of my LIFE in The Church and my marriage are - Isaiah 55:1-2, which my father read on an Ignation retreat and led to the conversion of my entire family - all 11 kids and my parents - to the Catholic Church! http://familysoulstory.blogspot.com/p/the-amazing-story-of-13-becoming.html I have written the entire amazing story here on this page, so I will leave it at that!
Luke and a friend - this kitten will be going to a home on a farm today along with her sister...The second scripture - I have never really given a verse to, but when Pat got in last night and we were talking about my talk I recalled the moment and foundation of our marriage - when at our engagement weekend Pat answered my question of whether we were being selfish to want a large family in keeping with the teachings of The Church - "The world needs LIGHTS." was his direct and immediately peace bringing answer to me. This has been the basis of our openness to LIFE and now that of our children! http://familysoulstory.blogspot.com/p/my-most-cherished-cross-patrick-gerard.html I have also shared much on this very important story on this page!
Last night I asked Pat if the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5:14 was the basis of what Fr Harry Tasto taught him years before - that no matter how horrible the world was - at that time there were the assasinations of both President Kennedy and Bobby, as well as, Martin Luther King, and the Vietnam war... as bad as things were - the world needed lights to show the way out of the darkness! "You are like LIGHT for the whole world." Matthew 5:14
The bus arrives home!
The third huge part of my life is also based on Scripture after Scripture... the Rosary! Even the Hail Mary itself is taken from scriptures in Luke! The rosary is my daily prayer - with every beat of my heart and every breath that I take! It fills me with Peace and JOY to face all that comes to me in LIFE! I really want to share about the Cross in my LIFE - My Most Cherished Cross and where better than on the Sorrowful mysteries when we are immersed in the suffering and death of Our Savior, Jesus Christ? Wow! I am truly pumped!!!
3 kids get off the bus, and little sister, Rose, and brother, Luke are watching and waiting!
One other huge Scripture/The Word/Christ... the message we received at the very beginning of our cancer journey 5 years ago - Jesus calming the storm - Mark 4:35-40! Jesus, is in control, and all we need do is trust in the midst of the storms of LIFE!
David out to visit even with his school backpack still on.
I also want to mention how important the readings of each day in The Church have become for me! Knowing that they are being read all over the world, preached, and studied and prayed over and listened to intently to hear Christ speaking to us! So powerful and amazing! Do you think I am wanting to share too much? Well, probably but there are pages full that I am not sharing... so much filling me to the brim with greatest of Praise for Jesus in His Word - Hallelujah!!!
Lukey with his dog, Lilly, who now lives with us on the farm.
Jesus, today in your Gospel you reminded us once again that "Blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it." Each day is so gloriously full of Truth as your Word comes to us through Your Bride, The Church! If we ponder the words prayerfully - You speak to us and keep us on your narrow path carrying/dragging our Most Cherished Cross and following after YOU. Thank you for this opportunity to share my story and your many blessings along the way. May I be open to your Holy Spirit at work through me. Jesus, we trust in YOU. Amen and Hallelujah
Such beautiful fall light surrounds this future LIGHT for the world!
Bless-bless, Barbara Luke
"O Jesus, Son of Mary, our Brother and our Savior, by the mystery of the body and blood which you deigned to assume from the Virgin's pure womb and which we today renew on our altar, preserve for us the gift of faith for the salvation of souls, for the prosperity and greatness of our people and the glory of your name, which will be at the same time our glory and our joy, in this present life and in eternity. Amen." St John XXIII
