I am putting on my nurses hat this weekend... remember when we actually had a nurses hat and wore them each time we worked? So it was a special gift to be reminded last night that it is my patron saint's feast day today - St Luke! As a 20 year old converting to the Catholic Church with my entire family - 13 strong - why did I break the mold and choose St Luke? I loved what I learned about Mary from him... the Magnificat which I pray every night with evening prayer, and even the "Hail Mary" is found in Luke!
When I am outside these days - kitten goes with me. She has her perch on my shoulder.
A big reason I chose St Luke was the fact that he was a physician and I was in nursing school. Today that seems quite comforting as I go off to serve the elderly and sick. I find that I start to get nervous as my weekend of work approaches, so that Saint in my corner helps me through. . St Luke is also a big sharer of the Mercy message with the Prodigal Son and the Good Samaritan only shared by Luke! I not only need and survive with God's Mercy, but I in turn want to be better at sharing that with all I come in contact with most importantly those the closest to me in my domestic Church/family.
Me with the boys I lost and finally I named her Mary - hoping that if she was a girl I would be able to carry her to term - I lost her too! When I did this painting I wanted all of them touching me... a form of comfort to me.
Jesus, thank you for most of all bringing The Church into my life - each day is a gift and a blessing to me on this journey of LIFE/LOVE/LIGHT! Thank you for St Luke's message and help along this narrow path. May I learn better the message of Mercy at his feet and share that with those I love and serve after the Mercy that has been shown to me. Go with me this day, and help me to give wisely and without counting the cost. Jesus, I trust in YOU. Amen and Hallelujah
