"Mom is at church being a teacher of Faith." me to 2 1/2 year old Rose Ida tonight

Tonight I had fun braiding Rosie's hair for the first time!  We watch Ruth and Paul's 5 kids while they go and teach Faith Formation each week.  We used to be the teachers, but realized that they would get a lot more out of having Ruth and Paul teach.  So we do our part by watching their 5 kids so they can get out and share their light!
Rose in her first braid!

Not only do Ruth and Paul share a younger perspective and Paul being a trained teacher knows better how to capture the attention and respect of the high school/jr high kids they teach.  But last year Ruth was very pregnant when they started the year and on November 1 had Luke, who then she brought along with her for the first month or so.  It was such a great lesson on being open to life and the kids could watch first hand as they welcomed with love and joy their 5th child... Luke Paul!  The kids in class would hold him and embrace this beautiful new LIFE close up and personal.  Such a special life lesson they shared.
Luke is a year old now and very sweet to grandma and grandpa - giving us hugs and smiles and laughing out loud at grandpa and his siblings playing with him.
Yes, Rose took a scissor and cut her own hair a few days ago... very short bangs and the top of her hair in places.

There were times tonight when Rose would ask about mommy - "She is at Church being a teacher."  Rose seemed to know and understand this.  I know that Pat and I got involved when our kids graduated the Catholic School and entered 9th grade and started Faith Formation.  We taught Susan from 9th through her confirmation and then we started over with John and just kept going after that.  Now we are feeling like we have hit upon the right way to serve by allowing Ruth and Paul to share their younger and more interesting perspective with the young in our Church.
We brought home the other orphan kitten that has been living over at Ruth and Paul's... we named him Josaphat as this is his feastday.  John says that he will probably just call him "Fat."
As Pat says this is Captain's home turf so she is not being very nice to her brother...
They, hopefully, will become friends and will become nice farm cats to keep down the mice and rats.  For now they are in from the cold, and that is a lucky break for the two of them.
David fell asleep on the couch next to grandpa... the assorted kids and cats and kittens in from the cold on a cold early winter evening in November.  We drove home in snow once again, and Pat had to plug in the tractors so that they will start in the morning.  "This is so early to have to do this." said Pat.  Jesus, thank you for time with family and for sharing our LIGHT.  Jesus, we trust in YOU.  Bless-bless, Barb
