I just put the kittens out for some fresh air on the deck... it sure feels nice and mild out there after this brutal month of cold!
I had a eye-opening experience thanks to both posting on my daughter Nancy's blog, and a Catholic blogger group that I am a member of... what it that? I have discovered that I am in a good place now with my age and many experiences behind me - making me who I am today! I am forever amazed and touched deeply by the way the Lord's hand has been on me and my LIFE for as long as I can remember. I also see that with my, most of the time, empty nest that I have been given the luxury of having some time and not the many distractions of those young women that are trying to share their insight and wisdom into The Truth found in The Catholic Church. I just responded to one of the members of our Catholic Womens Blogger Group - in response to her comment about how hard it is to blog at this time of year... it seems that all the others are young pregnant with morning sickness or small children, and with families that are pulling at them in a million directions. I am the lone grandma with an empty nest and blessed with a part-time job that allows me to share from my depth and wealth of experience of Jesus and His Bride, The Church in my longer life! Some were sharing that they have run out of things to share. I don't see how that can ever happen to me! My life is so rich each day with the Gospel, readings, Feast, Saint, Our Lady always with me, The Community of the Lamb, Nancy's blogs - http://www.dosmallthingswithlove.com/ , and http://thegreatgusadventure.blogspot.com/, and Ruth's blog promoting farm and Catholic - http://familyfarmexperience.blogspot.com/, and Maria's blog which due to the I cannot share the link here, but believe me when I say that I use her pictures from there all the time, all that I have grown in LIFE/LOVE/LIGHT due to the crosses that have entered my life through the childbearing years, John's brain cancer, grandson, Patrick's traumatic birth, on and on and on and on! It is no wonder that I never run out of things to share!
Every day I love to use this Thanksgiving picture... it is truly filled with the epitome of Thanksgiving for me!
I have the main messages that my LIFE has taught me, and I see the endless need to share... That the world needs LIGHTS, and that is why we are called to be open to family and then persevere with sharing our Faith with JOY in our homes/domestic Church! And that The teachings of The Church are to be trusted and followed no matter the cost, as through them we are being helped to get to The Kingdom of God/Heaven! Also that Jesus is in control no matter the storm we find ourselves in... all we need to do is repeat these words as a prayer of surrender - "Jesus, I trust in YOU."
On retreat with newborn Romeo a couple months ago... Why do I say on retreat? Because he is such a wonderful peaceful 4th child and we shared such calm and wonderful time together for the week I spent with them. It truly was like being on a week's retreat, as I learned many life-lessons from my 3rd daughter, Maria, on how to be a good wife and mother that does not indulge her children.
Yes, I have learned and been blessed by the touch of the Lord on my life over and over, for as long as I can remember, yet I am so blessed to grow deeper in my Faith thanks to my children and grandchildren! I am seeing that if you plant the seed of Faith, no matter how haphazard and how weakly, that the fruit will be there and feed us! Yesterday in the Gospel Jesus fed the crowd he had just healed, and today he heals two blind men! I know that I am a sinner and am very weak and wobbly on my feet of Faith, and that my blindness leads me to Jesus... I long to "see" with His eyes of Truth and Faith! I cry out to Him, when I see how I have gotten lost and bitter and angry and down and mixed up and resentful and all the things that are not of Jesus - I am blind! "Jesus, have pity on us!" Jesus says to us in return; "Do you believe that I can do this?" "Yes, Lord." "Let it be done for you according to your faith." Matthew 9 We need only have the Faith and then surrender to Him!
I do not hide that I added those missing to make this picture complete! How I love to see what is true in The Spirit - we are united by Faith!
Jesus, it is so wonderful to embrace where I find myself - older and yet learning at the feet of those still in the midst of their youth! I am filled with gratitude to find myself at this place of wisdom gained from all my years of joy and suffering... I think that pretty well describes the Cross in our lives - through the suffering we face and endure we find LIFE/LOVE/LIGHT! "The Lord is my LIGHT and my Salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is my life's refuge; of whom should I be afraid?" Psalm 27 from mass today says it all! I am so grateful for Jesus and His Bride, The Church, always being there to help me on my journey. All I need do is trust and follow You, O Lord, as I follow you down the narrow path carrying/dragging my Most Cherished Cross and seeing LIGHT ahead as I grow in LOVE without counting the cost, and share LIFE with all I meet - most especially those in my domestic Church/family. Jesus, we trust in YOU. Amen and Hallelujah
Bless-bless, Barbara Luke in my younger days with daughter Nancy Anna on April 2, 1982, the day of her birth! I loved my nest years with a passion, yet I find that now my grandma years are also wonderful and where I am supposed to be now. LIFE is a gift!
