Nancy just called from the Scotland airport - they are boarding the plane to return to America/Minnesota and their two precious little ones! They should get to the Cities at 7p and then down here before midnight! The two little ones will be asleep at that point, so it will be interesting to see if they will wake them to reunite after being apart for so long. Reading the first reading from mass this morning speaking about the Wisdom of the Lord "and with him it remains forever, and is before all time. The sand of the seashore, the drops of rain, the days of eternity: who can number these? Heaven's height, earth's breadth, the depths of the abyss: who can explore these? Before all things else wisdom was created: and prudent understanding, from eternity. The Word of God on high is the fountain of wisdom and her ways are everlasting." Looking at this picture of our family gathering on the shores of Lake Michigan at our lake home... thanks to my parents...the sugar sand is out of this world and it is mind blowing to even consider numbering/counting the sands of the shore! It speaks so powerfully of the ifinity of what wisdom can be for us... there is no limit!!!
At the beginning of July we will once again gather -hopefully with all but Hallel- at our cabin! So much has changed for Nancy in the last year... Gus now has a new baby sister, Bernadette at 6 months, who will have her first time in Michigan. The cousins talk about Michigan on a daily basis! We are forever blessed to have this wonderful vacation home that my parents built on the shore of Lake Michigan! My siblings and I grew up going there in the summer when we lived in the inner city of Flint, Mich!
More about Wisdom? I think so, as it is what we are gifted with through the Holy Spirit at work in our hearts!
"To whom has the disciplines of wisdom been revealed? And who has understood the multiplicity of her ways? There is but one, Most High all-powerful creator-king and truly awe-inspiring, seated upon his throne and He is the God of dominion. It is the Lord; he created her through the Holy Spirit, has seen her and taken note of her. He poured her forth upon all his works, upon every living thing according to his bounty; he has lavished her upon his friends." Sirach 1:1-10
All those millions grains of sugar sand make for a soft landing for David! He loves Michigan so much that he mentions it every day!
So with the Holy Spirit at work in our lives- hearts, minds, and souls... we need to come to a place of openness to the Spirit's Wisdom speaking to us and directing us - how? By taking time in prayer throughout our day! Jesus reminds the disciples today of the importance of prayer in the Gospel today. They are unable to cast out a demon from a boy, and Jesus tells them that "this kind can only come out through prayer." Mark 9:29 I find that when I carve out that quiet time with my rosary beads that there are thoughts and feelings for different people or situations in my life that come to me at that time... I am inspired by the Spirit at work in me, and I can humbly say that Jesus alive and working to take over my selfishness and self-centeredness. There are times that He takes me to task for my faults and weaknesses too. I want to be weak, O Lord, because that is when I need You and turn to You! I always remember Hallel reminding me of this - "But mom when we are weak is when we need Jesus!" I will to be forever weak and pliable as clay in the hands of the potter. Mold me, Lord, and make me into a useful vessel in the fire of your LOVE!

Jesus, may we humbly this day choose LIFE..."God offered the first couple the choice between obedient LOVE and self-seeking death. The choice remains our to make each day." see www.magnificat.com Lord, we know that we turn away from you and follow after the things in this world that bring us fleeting pleasures... may we say "no" to selfish desires and wishes and give to those in our domestic Church/family without counting the cost! May we embrace our Most Cherished Cross and find the Tree of LIFE restored to us through the most selfless act of LOVE - death on that Cross to take away our sins! It is through this carrying of our Cross and embracing the LIFE that is found there that we become LIGHTS for all to see. The darkness is so blinding to the Truth and the LIGHT is there on the other side of the door. Open it to the knock of Christ there with his nailscarred hands reaching out to you. Run into His arms and feel Him lift and carry you down the narrow path and into the LIGHT of Truth. We will be greeted there by His Bride, The Church, and she in her infinite Wisdom - more than the grains of sand on the shore- and direct you on the path to Heaven. The Church's wisdom is helping us to get to Heaven! We can totally Trust in her and in YOU, Jesus! Amen and Halleluia
