Such a great day.... going to mass with Augustine in the back seat... we look at each other and connect with smiles and songs..."Jesus, Jesus, Jesus in the morning, Jesus, in the noontime, Jesus, when the sun goes down." Gus is intrigued by the sparkly necklace that Therese made for me in Michigan, and has become my new favorite to be worn everywhere and with everything. Baby Gus sees why it is so wonderful and beautiful and we share that knowledge together!
Daddy dressed him up in dress shirt and kacky pants to go to see Jesus at Mass, and grandma thinks that he looks too cute for words!
The little girl in the pew ahead of us noticed how cute and good you were! I had just wowed over the readings for the mass... I forgot my prayer book - The Magnificat, so all the readings were new and exciting today. I loved and ooohed and ahhhed inside at the "tiny whispering sound." It fits so well with the wonderful book that Maria finished in Michigan and handed to me to read... a few days ago I started reading a chapter a night, and discovered a wonder! A Cry of Stone by Michael D O'Brien
The little family pose by the windows of ST Agnes and St Lawrence... I have told Nancy that I will hand the book on to her when I am done with its 847 pages... She has worked with Native Americans for the last 3 years at an Alternative School here in Mpls, and the main character is a small native Catholic girl and her journey into developing her artistic gift and finding her path. At this point of the book... she has just spent 9 years living at a Catholic school led by a group of French sisters by Thunder Bay in Canada. As she has been rejected from joining them as a sister due to a severe spinal malformation... she ponders her future and leaving them for more formal art training. She says a very profound and beautiful thing about her "smallness" meaning her humble roots and her tiny body due to the spine preventing her growth, yet it goes much deeper than that..."To be small is to make more space for Him?" So beautiful in the need we have to find the humility to admit our smallness and allow HIM more space in our lives!
A sweet new-to-me picture of Mary and Jesus that was in the entry way of church today... so sweet to behold and share. I loved the psalm response at mass today and just looked it up in the Bible here near the computer..."Lord, let me see your kindness." from Psalm 85... checking it out in the Word -I found this verse 7 _"Show us, Lord, your faithful love, and grant us your saving help." I would day that both are in line with each other and are filled with HOPE! Then the Gospel was once again the one in which Peter comes to Jesus walking on the water and Jesus standing on the waves - reaches out and saves him as he begins to sink! What gets any better than that?
Lord, thank you for this island of joy and happiness and growth in the midst of my wonderful family! It is hard not to have my little family within that 10 mile radius - yet is is wonderful to come here and spend a few days watching Gus sleep and now follow the cow around on his mobile... yes, he follows only the cow as if the others do not even exist... proof positive that cattle are in his blood! Jesus, we trust in you, and thank you for this gift on this wonderful Sunday the 19th Sunday of Ordinary time...
"Rose loved the five times a day when she went with the sisters to the chapel. once for Holy Mass, and four other times for prayer. Each day, moon unto moon, season unto season, the hours of prayer were the most beautiful times of her life, and she was happy - except for the brief times when she thought of grandma and Tchibi. But even then she was comforted, for in the chapel she felt them very near, knowing that Grandma was herself often sitting in front of the Blessed Sacrament praying for Rose, as she was praying for Grandma. So they were brought close by the Beating Heart in the tabernacle, who linked together all places, as if there were no distance anywhere in the world that could not be crossed instantly by love."
