We have been marveling over a movie Maria posted on her blog of Patrick walking at 11 months! It is making us remember how far he has come and once again the miracle that is our grandson Patrick! About this time a year ago - I had set a date to fly to El Paso just days before Maria's due date. Her husband was in Afghanistan and she needed me there to be with her for the birth. I thought that I might be watching the kids while she went in for the delivery, but she told me that she had a friend from the Council of Catholic Women to watch her kids and she wanted me to be with her for the birth. I was honored and excited. Well, her due date came and went, and day by day we waited for the arrival of our little Patrick. He seemed to be in no hurry, and Therese - his older sister would talk to Maria's tummy and tell her "naughty Patrick" that we were tired of waiting for him to come out. Maria made me swear to say nothing about her older sister rupturing when she was induced trying to V back after a previous C section. Two weeks overdue she went in to be induced... all went wrong as the placenta came loose and Maria tore - Patrick was born dead without oxygen for 20 minutes they thought! He entered NICU in another hospital downtown El Paso, and was the "sickest baby" in there. Less than two weeks later he was home and nursing and hasn't looked back since! He is robust and excelling in all ways, and now his brain in good and he is off seizure meds! A true miracle! Pat was recalling that he at one point needed 7 NICU nurses to hold him and all his wires and tubes so that they could change his bed under him! Now he is walking and mom is starting to potty train him! So we are once again so filled with wonder and gratitude to a good God as we celebrate almost a year with Patrick and all that this year has held for us - his Family! Jesus, we trust in YOU. Bless-bless, Barb
One of my favorites - how he loved to look and listen to his mommy!
The potty training time/story time.
