After school mass yesterday - Rose and Simon had a hug as Simon headed back to class. Simon had just received the Bread of LIFE as he is now a 3rd grader and gets The Eucharist weekly at school and every weekend at Mass with his family. It was so sweet to watch his siblings gather around him a year ago the Sunday mass after his first Communion... all asking him what it tasted like and how it felt to experience his receiving Jesus.
Dear Mary- When receiving your 1st Communion, take it very seriously. It is one of the most important things you will ever do in your life. Close your eyes after you eat Jesus, focus all your thoughts on him, and tell him that you love him. Even if it tastes like bread, and looks like bread and feels like bread - it is NOT bread. It is God. Love him alone.
Love,Your Godfather,
Joseph

How I have been anticipating the Gospel this week from John 6, and today is the biggie!
"Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the Flesh of the Son of Man and drink this Blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my Flesh and drinks my Blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my Flesh is true food, and my Blood is true drink. Whoever eats my Flesh and drinks my Blood remains in me and I in him." John 6:52-59
After I read it last night and again this morning with Pat as we did morning prayer... all I could think is about all those that ignore these precise and strong words to us... how can we not be Catholic? How can we not long for Jesus in His True Presence in the Eucharist? How can we not come as often as we can manage to HIM as He gives himself to us as Real Food? How can we ignore these clear and true words of Truth to us?

How can we not be moved by the story of St Paul's conversion today in the first reading today? It really got me excited to read about his holding the cloaks while St Stephen was stoned a few days ago. Don't get me wrong... it is a hard and horrible story, but I knew that Saul was about to be slayed in the Spirit on the road to Damascus... and transformed into Paul - "he began at once to proclaim Jesus in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God." Acts 9:1-20
I am off to make Mother's Day roses for Birthright!
Jesus, we long to come to YOU as You ask us over and over. How can we not? You offer us LIFE eternal and Your LOVE/LIFE/LIGHT! Jesus, we trust in YOU. Amen and Hallelujah
Bless-bless, Barb
Happy Mother's day one and all - we head to Kansas City in the morning for a huge occasion with the Community of the Lamb - 3 Americans taking the habit and changing their names! Very excited - no better way to spend Mother's Day weekend!
