Rose sure loves her new little cousin, Dominic. Our last morning at the cabin found her sweetly holding him while we waited for breakfast. We had a lot of cleaning to finish and then we hit the road about 11a. We are now at Nancy's travel weary and ready to find our own beds - that will have to wait another night as we gather together for Dominic's baptism tomorrow!
Gus loves to hold his little brother and Dominic is starting to look at him and is just about ready to smile at him. Today is Dominic's one month birthday! Such a great little boy he is, and tomorrow he will be washed clean in the waters of baptism and brought into our amazing Catholic Church, which we share as the cement that holds together our family in Faith/Family/Farm! Maria and Joseph will be his Godparents, and since Lt Joseph cannot be here... I think that John will stand in for him in the wonderful ceremony.
Just before we left David brought in a bouquet of wild iris for me... I put them in a vase and left them for my brother, Bruce, who comes to Michigan next. It was hard to leave my wonderful Michigan. Ruth and I were talking on our way home - 7 1/2 hours together with her 5 kids - thankfully they all took a nice afternoon nap and we had some nice peaceful time to visit... Ruth was asking me about my growing up going for most of the summer to the Big Lake in the lower part of Michigan close to Traverse City. "It is very hard for me to leave the Big Lake behind - my feelings about being there and its beauty run very deep for me. I have a lot of sadness when we cross over from Michigan to Wisconsin and I see it for the last time until next year." Ruth shared that she does not have the same emotional attachment to it, even though she has gone there for probably 17 years now. This love affair with Lake Michigan goes back generations with me - my grandparents, my mom, and me and my siblings, and now my kids. It has been a very large and wonderful part of my life, and there were ups and downs about this two weeks due to the cold weather and water. But with so many little ones it was great to have some wonderful sand and they played a lot with sand and water!

It is good to be back and to have this most special occasion to share tomorrow. It looks like we will be going to mass at Basilica first! It was my home parish, and where we married close to 36 years ago. I am hoping that I can grab a 11 grandkids picture there, but we will be tight on time. I need to go and help Nancy cook for our brunch in the morning. Lord, thank you for our safe travels and the warmth of family memories. Jesus, we trust in YOU. Bless-bless, Barb
A very special video of Rose with Dominic - it shows how sweet and loving she is towards her little one month old cousin. "Rose really surprised me these last two weeks - she was so sweet and is really growing into a nice and loving little girl." said her mom today on the trip home.
