The 28th anniversary of my sister's death

On this day 28 years ago my sister Mary died of cancer.  I have plans to go to mass in town and the only one is a funeral mass and I will have the two toddlers with me.  If it happens at all will be the question of the day.  I am filled with great grief in the midst of this flurry of family getting ready for a trip to Log slide on Superior.
All smiling at Luke this morning... his sweet face so filled with JOY does have that effect on all of us. The family has left without me, and I am very mixed inside.  I am relieved to be alone and in the peace and quiet and looking forward to mass and time with Jesus.  But I know that my sister, Mary, would have loved to have the opportunity I just passed up to have a crazy family adventure with 7 little ones!  She told me towards the end of her journey in this world that she would have gladly spent the rest of her life in a wheelchair if she could have the time to spend with her husband and 20 month old daughter.  I know she was just speaking to me that I should forget my sad feelings and LIVE LIFE with my family, but I was stuck in this darkness and unwilling to move out.
The two Davids - Big Dave can pick up his little cousin Little Dave!  The kids are all getting along well and enjoying each other.  They are off on a wild adventure, and I know that I should have joined them but...  I am missing out due to a wave of grief that made me stop short of joining in.  Now for a very quiet day and one of always second guessing myself and feeling down.  I will attend a funeral mass at 11a as that is my only opportunity to go to mass today.  I will not have the two toddlers along as they went with the two van loads to Log Slide today.
Jesus, so many emotions this day and I know this is not the way my sister would want her life celebrated... moping in the quiet alone.  She would love to be out enjoying her family and was showing me that I should do that too!  "Peace be with you.  Put your fingers here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving but believe."  Jesus says to all of us that find ourselves in this place of doubt and lack of Faith when it comes to dying to self so that He may live in us.  Lord, I am selfish and alone and long to give til there is nothing left.  Jesus, we trust in YOU.  Amen and Hallelujah
