Grandpa showed Ruth and Maria and their kids how to butcher a chicken today out in the heated shop. With the cold weather school was 2 hours late, so there were 8 kids out there in varying degrees of interest and disgust. Both Simon and David would not look at all, and Mary and Therese were both there for all of it!
Grandpa gets Rose to come and touch the newly cleaned chicken. The reason we butchered a rooster today is because Ruth thought she had gotten 12 laying hens and one turned out to be a rooster - no eggs and no use in eating feed and living. It is now in a stewing pot over at Ruth's and will be on the menu for supper tonight. Ruth had not remembered helping butcher chickens... I guess that was when she was really little.
The girls are braver than the boys...
David was staying as far away as he could get from the chicken butchering.
Patrick watching the pancakes being made for breakfast this morning.... he and Romeo stayed home with grandma while the rest of their family went in for daily mass this morning. Before they left I told them that I would make them pancakes when they got home. "Do you know the pancake story, Therese?" "NO." "When John and I went to France for Hallel taking her habit, we had Krusties pancakes every day!" "I had sent Hallel a bag of pancake mix that she only had to mix water with. When we got there the first morning and every morning after that they would take me down the hall to a kitchen and I made pancakes every morning for us." I guess we were thinking about Hallel today, and most every day for that matter. It was a good day to have pancakes!

Romeo woke up in such a happy mood and his sister so loved and enjoyed him - her dad said it was like "living dolly time" for Therese. It was so delightful to see him respond with such happiness at the care given him by his sweet loving sister. She even changed his diapers all by herself!
As Maria says about little 3 1/2 month old Romeo... "He loves love!"
Now with the winter just outside the patio door - 80 degrees by the fire and zero outside! Mary the Mother of God and St Francis pray for us!
Grandpa comes in with a cold face and warms it up on David...
"BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Little Patrick goes out to help grandpa feed in the warm tractor as usual most mornings these days.

With no internet this morning... the time to write has flown. Echoes of lessons learned throughout our day - sharing the times of Faith/Family/Farm. Filled with wonder at the Gospel for this day in which Jesus walks on water - the world understood that He was God - now we need to remember with each moment of each day that we are his and we need to serve him with all we do, say, work, play, eat, drink, share farm experiences, share faith experiences and share family experiences, share prayer and study. Jesus, we trust in YOU. Amen and Hallelujah
Patrick climbed in between us and quietly snuggled with this old couple in the early darkness this morning. He especially loved having a kitten come and purr in his arms. Bless-bless, Barbara Luke
