Rose came over to help get the cows across the road to clean up the grass one last time before that dreaded winter hits. The weather has changed drastically and we are looking for winter jackets while we pick up about 12 pails of windfall apples off the ground. I now have the smell of cooking apples in the house on this cold blustery day - making a canner of fresh applesauce. Fall is in the air!
Some cows and the bulls on this side of the road... now on the other cleaning up the grass. Today on the feast of St Jerome... translator of the Bible and writer of commentaries to enrich our reading and studying... I pray that the Lord in his Word may be a fire that comes from my mouth.
I had to go and get some parts where John works selling trucks and got a pic of him in his office... with his permission, of course.
It has been a long day, and my rosary is calling me so this will be quick today. It seems that each of the kids, other than the Texas one, has checked in today with prayer needs, so those are calling out to me.
Luke will be 11 months tomorrow and came over to brighten my day, too.
I am filled with excitement knowing that one of my young amazing TEC friends, studying in Rome this semester with St Thomas Catholic Studies program, is going over to visit The Community of the lamb and "finally meet Hallel!" I am so excited to hear about her visit and maybe see some pictures of my Little Sister Hallel and the other sisters in Rome. I am also excited for her to meet this amazing group of followers of the Lamb. "Wounded, I will not cease to LOVE." - the motto they live by and the example of the Lamb to us. Talk about the words that become a fire! There is no better fire to burn away the hurt and the anger and the bitterness that comes from hurt than forgiveness!
Rose in the pickup with me - watching her dad chasing the cows into the new pasture on the other side of the road.
The wind is cold today... Rose and Luke looking at some Indian corn with the onlooker - Roger the dog.
Out of the wind in the van with a couple pails of windfall apples for Ruth's chickens...
A fire that casts light, heat and burns away the weeds and the trash... that is what the Word/The Truth will do in our lives if we take the Word/Christ and have it be part of us. Each night I read the Gospel for the next day with great anticipation and excitement! May it be a fire and set people around me alive and alight!
Rose giggling with Roger snuggles - "Doggy!"
Jesus, St Jerome spent time away from the world and did not sleep for love of Your Word - "He is reading or writing the whole time." May we also hunger and thirst for The Way, The Truth and the LIFE that comes to us from your Word/Christ Jesus in our midst! One thing that my friend, Ellen, is going to discover about the Community of the Lamb is there love for Christ in His Word! How they become Christ knocking on the door of the poor -as they become Christ through the chewing and digesting and becoming his Word! Hallel had this burning love of Christ in His Word and this is what led her to enter the Community, after meeting them while studying in Rome through Catholic Studies in St Thomas! I am praying that other young men and women may love Jesus and listen for his personal call to them to become his priests , brothers and Brides/sisters. Jesus, we trust in YOU. Amen and Hallelujah
Bless-bless, Barbara Luke
"In the
remotest part of a wild and stony desert, burnt up with the heat of the
scorching sun so that it frightens even the monks that inhabit it, I seemed to
myself to be in the midst of the delights and crowds of Rome. In this exile and
prison to which for the fear of hell I had voluntarily condemned myself, I many
times imagined myself witnessing the dancing of the Roman maidens as if I had
been in the midst of them: In my cold body and in my parched-up flesh, which
seemed dead before its death, passion was able to live. Alone with this enemy, I
threw myself in spirit at the feet of Jesus, watering them with my tears, and I
tamed my flesh by fasting whole weeks. I am not ashamed to disclose my
temptations, but I grieve that I am not now what I then was" ("Letter to St.
Eustochium").
