A rose for LIFE at the prolife breakfast with granddaughter, Mary, this morning. It is very special to have my 9 year old granddaughter volunteering to help protect all life from conception to natural death by her serving at this fundraiser. "Grandma, when can I join pro-life?" "Now, but I suppose you should be in high school before you join Birthright." "I want to go and find my family after mass, because mom has my rock picking money and I want to give some to save babies." "Mary did you plan to bring your money and give some to pro-life?" "Yes, I want to help save lives."
The kids gather around the models of growing babies in the womb... David is pointing to a 8 week fetus... "Nancy's baby is about this size?" "Yes, it is 9 weeks old."
In the first reading from Jeremiah 3... the Lord is speaking about how he will bless his people. I will gather them from the ends of the world, with the blind and the lame in their midst, the mothers and those with child... They departed in tears, but I will console them and guide them; I will lead them to brooks of water, on a level road, so that none shall stumble. He takes special care for mothers and those with child..is that not a beautiful picture and Truth - LIFE is very special and God watches out for those that carry that life and cares for that life and nurtures that life and is open to that life and loves that life and raises that life as LIGTHS!
Much excitement at the beauty of God's most precious creation - new life in the womb! So sad that the world is blind as Bartimaeus to killing of innocent LIFE in the womb! How is it possible that they are blind to the fact that these are babies with beating hearts at 8 weeks and arms and legs and eyes and ears and they are prefect little babies? A life is a life no matter how small!
How we pray this day that those that are blind to the Truth about life may be healed and given sight to see! May they hear these words from Jesus - "Go your way; your faith has saved you." And "immediately he received his sight and followed him on the way." Mark 10:52 There are many stories of those that have realized they are taking lives and had a conversion of heart... gone from pro-abortion to pro-life! May those examples and witnesses bring others to the Truth that all LIFE is to protected and cherished no matter the cost!
A most amazing story to share from our gathering today... A young man, who we have been praying for his battle against brain cancer, had a miraculous healing in the last week! A growth had disappeared over the 5 weeks he had been praying and getting his strength back to continue the fight! John, Mary and I gathered to congratulate and give the praise to God, and suddenly John said; "Let's share some prayer." He prayed in thanksgiving for their healings - John and Matt. And then mentioned Our Lady and his love and gratitude for her motherly care for them. We then shared a "Hail Mary" together. So sweet and special to have these young men sharing their gratitude and realizing that now they are called to minister to others. "The Lord has a plan for us to be here and to serve!" Smiles and hugs all around!
A quick drive out to check on the calves before mass, and now an afternoon of vaccinating them.
A sweet visitor last night was special for Ruth and Paul's youngest kids... babies are so special!
Making a big lasagna meal yesterday reminds me of my story "The Grocery Store girl" from early in John's cancer and how she taught me to pray anywhere as John did today!
The Grocery Store Girl....As the family was all around John - I took a day away to make FOOD! I just needed a down day to make some homecooked food for the family, and get some mental health time. I ended up at a big Cub Food store that was nearby. As I slowly walked the aisles picking out what I needed... I got in line of a black checkout woman about my age. She asked me the ususal - "How are you doing?" I just couldn't say the usual "fine." I said - "Not that good." "You at least have money for food." she says, "unlike that guy ahead of you." she points to a black man bagging his own groceries that has just paid with food stamps. "That's true," I say, "but my 20 year old son has brain cancer! Could you please pray for him?" She looks shocked at me and slightly nods her head. At that exact moment a young girl in the next lane says - "Are you from Marshall? I think I went to school with some of your girls. Did you say that your son has brain cancer? Can I pray for you right here and now?" I was shocked and nodded my head in astonishment by it all. She bowed her head, and said a simple short prayer asking for John to be healed and protected as well as his family. I looked up to see the checkout lady and the man bagging his groceries also bowing their heads in prayer - united in prayer! That changed me! I might have lost a bit of my fire since. But for a long time after this happened I would pray in the street, on the phone, in an email - I would no longer say that I was going to pray for someone - I would do it right then and there! I call this the Grocery Store girl, and she started me into a virtual prayer warrior! I was reminded of this the other night - John and I were talking on the phone, and we were talking about my working the overnight shift at the nursing home that night. This is a hard task for me, and John knows it. He said that he would pray for me, and immediatly launched into a wonderful sweet prayer asking Jesus to go with me and to use me! I thought of my grocery store girl, and smiled all the way to work and many times during the night remember the blessings that we have received. Just yesterday I called a special friend/daughter that is struggling with her faith, and we prayed on the phone! Such a powerful connection! Prayer is something REAL and powerful!!! We certainly have discovered that on this journey!
A baby how wonderful!!!!
Jesus, we fall on our knees and beg for LIFE to be protected and cherished! Please end the horror of abortion. May the LIGHT come through the darkness and blindness of the world. May prayer continue to save lives of the unborn. Jesus, we trust in you. Amen and Hallelujah
Bless-bless, Barbara Luke
