Although they had already gone to mass this morning - my husband and son, John, went to mass with me tonight. It was so special and I leaned over and told John that it was right that we should be together on this evening of Father's Day 2012! Holding John's left hand while we said the Our Father together, was an emotional thing. This is the hand that will never be the same due to the biopsy/cancer discovery, yet it seemed to be stronger and more healed than ever before. The verse that grabbed me and wouldn't let go in mass tonight - "Brothers and sisters: We are always courageous, although we know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yet we are courageous, and we would rather leave the body and go home to the Lord." Yes! John's body is forever altered by his cancer, but he is the first to say that this was the means to which he has gained the knowledge and love of Christ in his life - His Faith in Christ and His Bride the Church! Our body here on earth is temporary and "we must all appear before the judgement seat of Christ, so that each may receive recompence, according to what he did in the body, whether good or evil." 2 Corinthians 5:6-10 John no longer can be suave on stage or play broomball or even walk smoothly anymore, but that is just the body which is on use to him here on earth, and now he is energized by the Spirit at work within him and he is yearning to spread the LIGHT and the TRUTH! Jesus, we trust in you. Amen and Halleluia!
Bless-bless, Barb
"as Isaiah says, 'the peace of such as these is like a river and like the waves of the ocean.' St Paul says that 'this peace of God surpasses all understanding,' and St Peter says that 'this joy is unspeakable.' It is 'hidden manna' that is given to the one who manfully overcomes himself. 'No one can taste it except the one who receives it (Rv 2:17).' "
St John of Avila (1569)
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you." Jer 1:5
Two miracles!
