St Peregrine is the patron saint that all those go to that have cancer. Why? Because he was suffering with cancer and had a vision that Jesus reached down from the Cross and he was healed! This is the crucifix that is in the chapel at St Joseph's hospital. We found ourselves going there to find some answers from the "best brain surgeon in the world!" We had just been told in Sioux Falls that they wanted to do some horrific brain surgery on our 20 year old son to get some of the tumor in the middle of his brain! It was the first time we had heard the word "tumor" used to describe the "something" in his brain that we had found in a CT scan done in the ER in Marshall on Father's day 2009. We could no way consider such a thing by a surgeon, who admitted that he had never done anything like this before and talked about shunts he would put in on one side of the brain and then the other. NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sioux Falls suddenly seemed very small and we took our son out of there quickly! This chapel greeted us as we found a place to find spiritual support as well as doctors searching for a way to diagnose John's cancer! Daily mass and prayers here in this chapel gave us courage to face the unknown, and John had his first annointing the first day we arrived there! This started our journey of faith/prayer/healing! Being back at St Joseph about 2 weeks ago now, and back in the intensive care unit overnight was so powerful... especially with the new stress in trying to figure out why John had stroke like symptoms and was rushed there in an ambulance with numbness on the right side as well as problems speaking - then the headache!
Saint Peregrine Prayer for people with cancer
"O great St. Peregrine, you have been called "The Mighty," "The Wonder-Worker," because of the numerous miracles which you have obtained from God for those who have had recourse to you.
For so many years you bore in your own flesh this cancerous disease that destroys the very fibre of our being, and who had recourse to the source of all grace when the power of man could do no more. You were favoured with the vision of Jesus coming down from His Cross to heal your affliction. Ask of God and Our Lady, the cure of the sick whom we entrust to you.
(Pause here and silently recall the names of the sick for whom you are praying)
Aided in this way by your powerful intercession, we shall sing to God, now and for all eternity, a song of gratitude for His great goodness and mercy."
Amen.
John continues to be healed! Jesus, we trust in you. Bless-bless, Barb
