Blessed John Paul II reminded us that in commemorating the solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, the Church "does not only celebrate the Eucharist but solemnly bears it in procession, publicly proclaiming that the sacrifice of Christ is for the salvation of the whole world." This happened in our lives 3 years ago when our only son, John, developed a very rare brain cancer! In working on a talk I will be giving in two weeks about The Church... I am flooded with the reality of how the Church covered us in that year and since - we need nothing else for all is there! I truly realized this reality when I was 20 years old and being confirmed into the Catholic Church in a huge adult confirmation at the Cathedral in St Paul! I had had hands laid on me as a Protestant to receive the Holy Spirit and my life had been changed when I was about 16. But to follow my parents down the aisle of this mind blowingingly gorgeous Church, and to see the man bedecked in a tall hat and glowing robes laying his hands on our heads to receive the Holy Spirit - it showed me beyond a doubt that the Catholic Church had it all figured out! I have never doubted this fact and my life has been flooded with graces and blessings as I fill each day with the Way, The Truth, and the LIFE - Jesus with his Bride, The Church!
The Pat and Barb Verly family and their 5 children, in laws and grandkids along with many prayer warriors have been drawn together by John's cancer... sharing daily for 8 months started this blog- Family Soul Story - Our faith, family, farm and now our cancer journey called HEALING have colored and deepened our world. WE continue to share and depend on the support of our prayer warrior community, that has lowered us into the Lord's presence for His healing!
