I am home after a very big day and can now add the pictures... John today in Rochester. Probably the last time that mom and dad will be along, so it was great to meet with both his doctors and hear the good news!
Traveling through lots of farmland that hasn't been planted yet to get here for John's 6 month checkup with John and Pat. We are calm and peaceful that this is just a formality, but it always is fairly emotional to come here and see the sick at various stages of their personal battles/storm - which have to be handed off to Jesus! He is in control in the storms that come to us in our little fishing boat on the seas. The same feeling of passing that long line of hopeful sick and dying the two times we were in Lourdes - is similar here. Here it is the top medical care, and in Lourdes it is the utmost Spiritual care! I am yearning to go to my online photographs and finding those cherished ones from Lourdes as I writ this,but this computer will not allow me to do that. Well, it is time for John's breakfast so off we go. Jesus, we trust in YOU. Bless-bless, Barb

We just had a delightful visit with his special doctor here in Rochester - the one responsible for him coming here 4 years ago now - and we were reminded that he is a wealth of information, and takes a personal interest in John. He has himself had a nephew go through brain cancer and now has a very close and personal experience of going through this neardeath experience himself that has brought it even closer to home. He also told us that there has not been another case like John's anywhere in the world that he knows of in the last 4 years! It truly makes John realize just how rare he is! We also discussed how after experiencing his life being spared while so many die - how it makes you look at life as a gift that you had better not squander but make the best of every single moment you have been given. His nephew has just completed medical school, but rather than jumping into residency he is feeling, much like John, that he wants to write! Write about the experiences that he had and share this with the world. This is John's burning desire - to write a book about his journey called cancer/healing/seminary/now work? Not only to write a book but to present verbally to gatherings his story. It was very interesting to hear doctor share how this feeling of why was I spared is a very natural feeling. "I was in a good place with my faith when my cancer came growing back through the chemo. I was prepared and OK with dying." John shared today. There was a laugh that they had robbed John of this good time to leave this world behind. "Now you just need to make good use of the time you have been given, and not waste it." said Doctor O'Neil I think John did a bit of mental inventory at this point.

The ending line of today's first reading is bringing to mind those beautiful iris in the sun yesterday, and how they reflect the wonder of our loving and forgiving creator of Heaven and earth. "For if what was going to fade was glorious, how much more will what endures be glorious." 2 Corinthians 3:11 Our lives here on earth are going to fade and are for the short term, but LIFE eternal will be that much more glorious as it is everlasting! We are filled with such wonder and awe at all your blessings, O Lord. Today we are truly praising YOU at the healing of our very rare son, John Patrick Augustine Verly. We know that you have an amazing plan for him and that doors will open to show him the path that you wish him to follow carrying his Most Cherished Cross/Tree of LIFE. Jesus, we trust in YOU. Amen and Halleluia
