"when I am weak, then I am strong." 2 Corinthians 12:10

Little Rose is 13 months now and she has discovered the joy of watermelon!  She sees the pile of watermelon in the produce section at the store, and lets out a yell until one is picked out and sitting in the seat next to her.  Then she pats the watermelon with love as they travel through the store.   You would think that number 4 in a family would be small and weak and buried in a pile of older siblings.  But Rose has always let her wishes be known very loudly and that really makes sense I guess.  She is small and needs a lot of help to have her needs cared for, so this was her way of getting what she needed.  There was no forgetting her!  Now she seems more content and happy and also is now mobile and getting the things that she wants.  The other day I walked in the door and she was in the refrigerator - she has learned that from her older brother, David!  No, she wasn't helping herself to watermelon, but a cheese stick.
Last night reading evening prayers from the Magnificat - I was struck by this reading from 2 Corinthians 12 -
"The Lord said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.'  I will rather boast most gladly in my weakness, in order that the power of Christ may dwell in me.  Therefore, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and constraints, for the sake of Christ; for when I am weak, then I am strong."  How this reminded me of the times in the last years when I felt to be so weak... Most especially comes to mind is the time I had my hip replaced at the same time that my mother in law had broken hers and had hers replaced... I was telling Little Sister Hallel on the phone how I was so weak compared to my mother-in-law..."Mom, when we are weak is when Jesus comes to us."  Suddenly I thought that I want to be weak all the time, because I want to have Jesus come to me and care for me!  I want to be that baby that lets out a yell and cry for Jesus to come and take care of me - I am weak and unable to do this, Lord, I need you!  I am hungry or I have dirtied myself, and I need you, Lord!
Lord, I am weak and lowly and that is where I know of my need for YOU!  Help me to be yours and to look to YOU for all that I need to love and to serve those in my domestic Church/family.  Jesus, I trust in YOU.  Amen and Halleluia

Bless-bless, Barb
