Patrick is discovering the feel of his tongue on the roof of his mouth. The tube that was put in a week ago when he was resuscitated is now out! He has a nasal cannula in so that they can give him some air, but it is the same oxygen concentration as the air that we all are breathing and his O2 is great! Both Maria and I were thrilled to hear him making his first sounds - we even would have liked a good cry, but he is quite hoarse after the tube has been in his throat for this long. Later tonight or tomorrow morning he is to have an MRI of his brain. This is a very familiar thing to us after the many John has had in his battle and healing from brain cancer! We thought that Patrick would have to be sedated but we discovered that they will not do this..."We swaddle them tightly in a blanket and put a nook in their mouths and protect their ears. The vibration lulls them to sleep while they are in the machine." As much a our little Lamb has been awake today with a bath and having his tube out... he should sleep well!
We asked to be called when he goes in for his MRI so that we can be praying for good results! Join us in this intention. We are discovering more and more as we see that all his systems are working wonderfully - that he is a healthy boy with special needs for his brain health - so we lift that intention up in prayer! Lord, hear us! Maria and I smiled when the nurse told us that his dad had sung to him today in the middle of the NICU! So special for Patrick to have his dad here and singing to him. He knows that he is loved. Holding him is coming in the next few days we hope and pray!
Tonight we say goodbye and thank you to Kara! She has been here helping out with the kids for a week, so that we could be with Patrick in NICU! Thank you so much! You are truly Family to us now more than ever. She will heading back to her Sammy tomorrow morning. WE have been blessed by their generosity!
Together to face all that lies ahead... out for a farewell meal to show our appreciation to Kara. Good to share a night out with Family! Jesus, we are so filled with appreciation as we are showered with graces and blessings. Jesus, we trust in you. Bless-bless, Barb
Get used to lots of kisses Patrick, and mom says that when she can hold you we will be there a very long time!
