The day before Rose was born... the 3 older ones and I went out to the pasture behind their home...they had just put some cow-calf pairs out there, and as we walked up to them feeding by the creek... the babies were contentedly laying in the grass while their moms fed on the green grass. There were, of course, puffy white clouds in the sky to make it all perfect to behold, and to me a visual Psalm 23... allowing us to seek what is above!
Psalm 23
The LORD Is My Shepherd
23"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green [1] pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest [2] my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever." [3] The King James version to me is what rings as familiar and loved, so that is what I used this morning. This is just so special this day, and is truly a description of how our life can be a little slice of heaven here on earth within our domestic Church/family if we "seek what is above" in our day to day lives. That begins with going to that "chapel/cathedral" within in prayer... with every beat of our heart and with each breath that we take! I will be jumping in my car soon to head out to finish up getting my roses ready for selling them for Birthright this weekend of Mother's day... especially in the car... I immediately reach for my rosary! Ruth said the other day that little Rose being born on May Day - May 1st the first day of the month devoted to Our Lady, Mary... her name is from the Rosary - Rose is devoted to Mary! Wow! You can only imagine how special that is for me!
There is a rosary made of little dried rosebuds hanging on the wall over the bed of my mother-in-law, Anna Verly. It has been on the casket of her husband, Gerard, when he died in 1996. I hope and pray that the rosary can be as special to little Rose as it is for me and for Pat's mom too! I grasp those beads and they transport me to that inner place of prayer and contemplation of the Holy Spirit here to answer and direct my prayers and thoughts - seeking what is above! Hail Mary, please bring all my needs and praise and worship before your Son, Jesus Christ! He loves and honors you as the sinless womb that gave him LIFE as True God and True Man! On this Mother's Day weekend may there be healing and joy brought to many Mothers as they are honored for saying "yes" to LIFE and then looking to YOU to bring them to Your Truth, Your Way, and Your Life, my Jesus! As we seek you we find you there with your nailscarred hands wide to forgive us with unconditional love and carry us in your arms, when we are weak and lost. Jesus, we thank you for the beauty of this world and how it allows us to experience your Truth as we look to the heavens - reminding us to "seek what is above!" Jesus, we trust in you. Amen and Halleluia, Halleluia, Halleluia, Halleuia!
Bless-bless, Barb
"If it is great wealth not to possess one's heart because it has been given to God, what will it be to possess God's heart as our own? For God gives his heart to those to whom he gives his love, and after giving his heart, he gives all that he is. Without doubt we belong entirely to the one to whom we give our heart. Many and great are the blessings and the infinite the divine Goodness gives to human beings, but compared with the gifts of his heart, the others deserve little attention... we can glory that so high a King, whom the angels adore, desires in his goodness to love lowly creatures such as we are."
St John of the Cross of Avila (1569)
He leads me beside the still waters... He refreshes my soul. Psalm 23
"Then the angel showed me the river of life-giving water, sparkling like crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb." Rev 22:1
