I had been busy sewing so that the girls could all dress alike and with 5 kids including a new baby... I think that I was a bit of a wreck by time the day came around. I recall a house full of people here to join us in our celebration, and that was made it even more special of an Easter! You can's see it, but John had a tiny striped bow tie on his little white suit... he didn't wear the white baptismal dress that grandma Verly had sewed for Ruth and then worn by the 3 girls after her... I know that in the generation before us that the boys wore those too, but after waiting so long for a boy and being of the next generation... John wore a white sleeper and a bow tie... and even though he had enough hair for the signature Verly topknot... that was not to be either! There some beautiful words by Pope Benedict XVI.... "Christ descended into the sea, into the waters of death, as Isreal did into the Red Sea. Having risen from death, he gives us new life. This means that baptism is not only a cleansing, but a new birth... The other way that we encounter water is in the form of the fresh spring that gives life... In baptism, the Lord makes us not only persons of light, but also sources from which living waters burst forth." Jesus we thank for the gift of John and this most amazing anniversary of his baptism into you and your amazing Church! May your living waters surround and protect him now and always. Amen and Halleluia!
