This was a special Sunday at mass for our grandkids - Simon, the oldest of the 3, was mentioned in the Gospel today and Simon was paying enough attention to hear his name mentioned in the reading and also when Fr gave the homily... So after church we pointed out to him the window with his name on it! He was so cute - "That's my name! But where is the Lanoue?" Yes, Simon... the Lord is calling you to become a saint, or to continue to be a saint!
Mary, age 4, took her little brother, David, over to the saint nook to show him one of the many Marys that are around our church! She asked why this one had dark hair... I told her that this Mary came to the Mexican people, or Inca People and so she has dark hair like them! "She showed all of them that they should love Jesus through her and be in the Catholic Church!"
Then little David is not left out today at mass.. The first reading was about King David and how the Lord loved him and forgave him even though he was a sinner! How we love the psalms that he wrote for us to pray through all of our emotions and feelings and sins and ups and downs!
Outside the church was my favorite rose bush in full bloom... Mary was afraid of "stickies" to get too close, but Davey showed her how... I always think of ST Therese of Lisseux and how she sends us roses as a message from heaven that she is working on our prayer requests... this bush fills me with much hope! Do small things with great love and all those roses represent a whole lot of LOVE!
Mary tires of the roses, but Davey continues to examine their wonder! Through the eyes of small children with the encouragement of a whacky grandma!
Healthy David with the roses - reminds me to lift up a prayer for our little guy... On Wednesday he will be at Children's Hospital in the Cities for a small surgery to repair his laryngeal cleft - a small openning that has allowed him to get some fluid in his lungs since birth. Now we go to have it repaired! St Theresa pray for us and Blessed Mother hold him in your protective arms!
To my grandkids just like my own kids - Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall, MN is their parish! Many amazing sacraments and every Sunday worshiping as a family have been the best of blessings... may they continue now into this future generation!
Next it is over to mom's/grandma's/great grandma's... all the same person... representing 4 generations, we gather to share a meal and visit and play for the kids... Davey helps wash the strawberries and help get the food ready, but he thinks that he is just playing in water, so everyone is happy!
The boys are enthralled by things that turn, and are starting to learn to play together... the exercise bike makes that easy!
David can't find the kitty - Grandma doesn't tell him that the kitty is probably hiding from a certain little 2 year old!
Beautiful Mary allows grandma to take a close up and then wants to see the picture... One is enough.
The boys share a game with the walker - it has wheels all the way around. They share and allow the other one a turn after we count to 10 then 20... All goes well until there are tears! Time to go home, but not till after we have all had another wonderful memory of a Sunday with Church and family!Since Pat's dad died in 1996... a lot of Sundays we go over to his mom's house after church. Pat was shocked to realize that has been for 14 years now! Then his mother broke her hip and had it replaced a year and a half ago... and since then she is coming to church with us a lot of Sundays now too. So she shares mass with us and that a lot of days includes now John, our youngest child, now 21 and our oldest, Ruth with her husband and 3 children!
