Seven years ago my oldest daughter, Ruth, had gotten engaged in April... She was a new nurse in Avera in Sioux Falls and Paul had just graduated college and was ready to teach Ag in high school... The first week of May they were home and we started the tradition of engagment pictures....It was a beautiful day and we started going from place to place around the yard and then out into the pasture.... I had both black and white film and color in two "film" cameras and the tradition of the bins as a backdrop with black and white film became a true tradition... Almost exactly 7 years later I have the distinct pleasure ot taking the last of my daughter's engagement pictures. Nancy has had the sad and hard place of watching the sisters on either side of her find their spouces and get married and start families... Unlike the pictures for Ruth... we had a rainy and overcast weekend, but that made for some mud puddle - umbrella pictures that are special just for them. The lilacs are not open yet but still supplied a bouquet for Nancy to hold. It was good to follow them around and hear their comments about how they will have "8 children". How they want to get married in 5 months as they are waiting for marriage... They are not misled by the lies out there telling young people to live together and see if you are compatible or not. They also know and believe that they wait for their wedding night to become one! The smiles on their faces and the joy in their eyes are something that I want to capture and have cherished with the other two daughters... I see a wonderful joy also in the face of Little Sister Hallel with her community and at prayer! Yes, life has it's struggles but the strength of the love we share with each other will pull us through... Marriage is forever!
