The Nativity of St John the Baptist - A day of tears a year ago... today a day of thanksgiving!

"The nativity of Saint John the Baptist is a sacred reminder that I need to be born in my life every day: - Someone who leaps for joy before the presence of the Lord making me want to live my own relationship with Jesus with greater ardor ferver;A sacred reminder of...  Someone to prepare the way of the Lord and to give me the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of my sins...The birth of St John the Baptist is a sacred reminder... of someone who turns my attention away from my distractions and preoccupations so that I will behold the Lamb of God as the true desire of my heart..Someone who models for me that there is no greater joy in my life that for Jesus to increase and for me to decrease, especially as regards my self- assertion and self-importance.-someone who is a burning and shining lamp whose radiance gives light to my path and courage to my heart, making me want to live for others. -someone so committed to truth that he is willing to lay down his life for the Truth-become-flesh - witnessing to me that all true happiness comes through self sacrifice...The birth of St John the Baptist is a sacred reminder of the fact that I need born in my life every day; - someone whose sanctity proclaims that there is no man born of woman greater than he is but that I can share his greatness if I love Jesus as he did.In the tender compassion of our God, the Dawn from on high has broken upon us through the birth of John the Baptist." Fr Peter Cameron.O.P.  (see http://www.magnificat.com/ )Happy feast day John!  A year ago... we had just arrived at the hospital in Sioux Falls and were so scared - then word of the horrific surgery they told us they needed to do to discover what the "tumor" was in your brain.  As we sat at your bedside in tears at the constant mentioning of John given as a gift to his mother, Elizabeth, in her old age... John... our only son... was a gift to us and now we were facing the worst with him!  Reading Isaiah 49 from the readings of the day - "Hear, O Coastlands, listen, O distant peoples.  The Lord called me from birth, from my mother's womb he gave me my name.."

This year after now 6 months without cancer due to miraculous healing - The Psalm 139 of mass today is such a powerful reminder of how far we have come... from the brink of death to a life filled with new found faith and hope and trust!  Here is where the tears flowed like rivers last year and continue to this day... "You formed my inmost being;
you knit me in my mother's womb.
I give you thanks that I am fearfully, wonderfully made;
wonderful are your works."

John and I laughed over the last year that the umbilical cord reappeared in the ways that we were put back together as mother and son.  But this time the new life came from all those that lowered us into the presence of our Lord for the healing as the paralytic was lowered into the Lord's presence by his friends and the Lord told him..."Your sins are forgiven you... pick up your mat and walk!"  And he went... walking and leaping and praising God!  Praise you Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world!  It is so powerful to put ourselves in the place of blind terror of a year ago and now to the place of coming through the cross to the side of resurrection and life!  Jesus we trust in you!  Amen and Halleluia!  Bless-bless, BarbMay your light shine for all to see now and forever!  We love you so much John and are truly blessed by this powerful year of cancer/healing and how it has allowed us to go DEEP, and to be forever changed and humbly to come to our Lord in our weakness!
