A wild rose in the ditch....

I walked down the driveway with the dogs to get the mail... It is a wondrous time of year with all the big puffy clouds up in the sky and the green almost flourescent in color... everything seems to be growing and changing by the day... the crops truly are flourishing in the warm sun and the adequate rains to keep everything lush and green.  I released a sigh of wonder as I looked down to see a perfect wild rose behind the mailbox in the ditch of lush grass.  Like a special gift just for me to remind me of how special we all are to our Lord!  We are each his masterpiece and a work of art... our parents gave us life and nurtured us and taught us the values that we carry forth into now our families and "domestic churches".  The value of each of us was brought home in a beautiful way by a visit I had with one of the residents in the Nursing Home where I now work part time as a nurse.  This couple had gone out the day before to a graduation party for a grandson... a very special grandson, who has downs syndrome.  "He was so proud of his accomplishments and came out to greet everyone that arrived with a big smile and hug!"  They shared that their daughter is going to write an article about her son and how he touched so many already in his young life, and what a blessing he is to them and to many in the community that they live in...  We discussed how so many with Downs are always happy and smiling and loving to those that they come in contact with.  To think that people are encouraged to abort a baby if it is discovered to have Downs while in the womb is a crime first of all because it is taking an innocent life, but secondly because it is depriving the world of a wonderful special light!  We all said that we hope that she does write that article from the perspective of a mother that gave life to this wonderful "rose in the ditch" and allowed it to give that joyful suprise and light in the midst of our world... that has grown callous and selfish and thinking that if a person doesn't measure up to perfection that it does not deserve to live.  May the Lord reveal the truth and change hearts that have been deceived by the lies of the world!  Life is a gift, and we are not to take it into our hands.... from conception to a natural death... life is to be cherished and protected!  Jesus we trust in you and honor your image in each  and every  human being!  Amen and Halleluia!
